SCOPE: We are seeking an experienced Bodily Injury Defense Attorney to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in personal injury law, particularly related to automobile accidents. Responsibilities include representing the company in legal matters, managing claims, providing legal advice for compliance, and working with the claims department to mitigate risks and negotiate settlements. The role involves staying current on Texas insurance laws, advising internal teams, and participating in mediations, arbitrations, and settlement discussions. This position is based in Houston, TX, with the option for remote work.

DUTIES:

  • Manage and litigate property damage claims, including first-party property claims, subrogation, and bad faith litigation
  • Represent the company in all phases of litigation, from pre-suit investigations to trial and post-trial activities
  • Develop case strategies, draft pleadings, motions, discovery, and attend depositions, mediations, hearings, and trials
  • Provide legal advice to the claims department, management, and internal teams on property damage claims
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations during the claims process
  • Advise on legal risks related to policy interpretations, claims settlements, and potential exposure
  • Negotiate settlements efficiently and cost-effectively
  • Participate in mediations, arbitrations, and settlement conferences to achieve favorable outcomes
  • Conduct legal research on Texas insurance laws, recent court decisions, and statutory developments
  • Prepare legal documents such as briefs, memoranda, and opinions
  • Stay updated on changes in insurance and property damage laws in Texas
  • Assist in developing policies to minimize legal exposure and improve operational efficiency
  • Collaborate with claims and legal teams to provide proactive legal support
  • Communicate legal concepts clearly to non-legal personnel

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
  • Admission to the Texas Bar and in good standing
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (highly desirable)
  • Strong understanding of insurance laws and regulations
  • Ability to analyze complex legal issues and develop strategies
  • Proficiency in legal research tools and case management software

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • 3-5 years of experience in personal injury law, especially automobile accidents
  • Litigation experience with trial skills preferred
  • Excellent negotiation, advocacy, and legal writing skills
  • Ability to handle a high volume of cases and prioritize effectively
  • Proficiency in case management software, legal research tools, and Microsoft Office
