Job summary

Bank of America is seeking a senior legal advisor focused on AI use cases and strategic technology initiatives. You will review AI lifecycles, assess privacy, data use, IP, and regulatory considerations, and provide practical, risk-based legal guidance to enable responsible AI adoption across the enterprise.

The role requires a state bar admission with 5+ years of experience, strong communication for senior stakeholders, and collaboration across Legal, Technology, Risk, Compliance, and business

Qualifications

  • Active member in good standing of at least one state bar or the District of Columbia with at least five years of relevant experience.
  • Ability to operate as both legal advisor and process partner in a regulated environment.
  • Experience advising senior business, legal, risk, compliance, and technology stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a legal advisor for AI use cases across the enterprise, including identifying and analyzing legal issues raised by proposed, developing and deployed AI capabilities.
  • Provide legal advice on AI use case reviews, including issue-spotting, documentation of legal analysis, and review of proposed mitigations.
  • Assess AI use cases for legal considerations, including privacy, data use, IP, explainability, transparency, fairness, and human oversight.
  • Support consistent legal analysis by developing issue-spotting guides, templates, and approval memoranda.
  • Help develop public policy positions on AI by translating complex AI issues into practical legal and policy positions.
  • Provide practical risk-based advice on other technology initiatives (cloud/SaaS, data solutions, automation).
  • Monitor AI and technology legal developments and translate them into guidance, governance, and training.
  • Support knowledge-sharing within Legal through guidance, playbooks, and mentoring.

Job Description:

This job is responsible for providing legal advice and guidance on artificial intelligence (AI) use cases and other strategic technology initiatives, helping identify, assess, document, and manage legal risks arising from the adoption and use of AI across the enterprise. Key responsibilities include reviewing AI use cases throughout their lifecycle, assessing legal and regulatory considerations, conducting legal risk evaluations, supporting governance and oversight activities, developing legal guidance and review materials, and advising on regulatory inquiries, examinations, audits, and internal reviews related to AI and technology matters. Job expectations include collaborating with Legal, Technology, Risk, Compliance, and business partners to support responsible AI adoption, providing practical legal solutions for complex technology issues, identifying emerging legal trends and risks, and enabling innovation through sound legal judgment and effective stakeholder engagement.

Responsibilities:
  • Serve as a legal advisor for AI use cases across the enterprise, including identing and analyzing legal issues raised by proposed, developing and deployed AI capabilities
  • Provide legal advice on AI use case reviews, including legal issue-spotting, documentation of legal analysis, escalation of novel or significant issues, and review of proposed mitigations
  • Assess AI use cases for legal considerations, including privacy, data use, intellectual property, explainability, transparency, fairness, human oversight, recordkeeping, third party dependencies, and appropriate use of AI-generated outputs
  • Support consistent legal analysis across similar AI use cases by helping develop issue-spotting guides, legal review templates, decision frameworks, escalation criteria, and approval memoranda
  • Help develop and support public policy, industry, and advocacy positions on AI by synthesizing legal developments, identifying impacts to enterprise AI use cases and translating complex AI issues into practical legal and policy positions
  • Provide practical, risk-based advice on selected non-AI technology matters, including new technology deployments, platform and infrastructure initiatives, vendor-enabled technologies, data-intensive solutions, cloud/SaaS capabilities, automation tools, and other emerging technology initiatives.
  • Monitor AI and technology legal developments and translate them into practical guidance, governance enhancements, training, and recommendations for internal stakeholders
  • Support knowledge-sharing and capability-building within the Legal Department through reusable guidance, playbooks, training, and mentoring of peers or other Legal staff
Required Qualifications:
  • Active member in good standing of at least one state bar or the District of Columbia with at least five years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate as both legal advisor and process partner, including designing, improving, or supporting workflows, governance routines, documentation standards, escalation paths, and approval processes in a regulated environment.
  • Strong judgment, analytical ability, and comfort advising on novel or ambiguous issues involving evolving law, technology, policy, and risk considerations.
  • Strong client-facing skills, including experience leading discussions with senior business, legal, risk, compliance, and technology stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, manage multiple matters simultaneously, and collaborate effectively across functions and levels of the organization.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to present complex legal concepts clearly, practically, and concisely to non-legal audiences.
  • Proven record of accountability, teamwork, cooperation, and timely, creative, and professional problem-solving.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience with, or strong interest in, AI, responsible AI frameworks, data governance, cloud/SaaS, software, or platform-related issues in a regulated enterprise environment.
  • Experience supporting regulatory inquiries, exams, audits, issue management, governance committees, control processes, policy implementation, or other regulated governance routines.
  • Familiarity with emerging AI regulatory frameworks, standards, and guidance, such as the EU AI Act, NIST AI Risk Management Framework, state AI laws, privacy and cybersecurity frameworks, and financial services regulatory expectations.
  • Experience creating practical legal guidance, templates, playbooks, training, governance routines, metrics, or other repeatable tools that improve legal and business execution.
  • Ability to work with technical stakeholders, ask informed questions, identify legal issues, and translate legal requirements into actionable guidance.

Pay and benefits information

Pay range

$157,500.00 - $236,500.00 annualized salary, offers to be determined based on experience, education and skill set.

Discretionary incentive eligible

This role is eligible to participate in the annual discretionary plan. Employees are eligible for an annual discretionary award based on their overall individual performance results and behaviors, the performance and contributions of their line of business and/or group; and the overall success of the Company.
