Job summary

The State Board of Education seeks an Attorney/Legal professional in Columbus to conduct legal research and prepare written reports in support of educator conduct investigations.

You will respond to law-related inquiries, assist staff attorneys with investigations of professional misconduct (non-criminal focus), and draft subpoenas, public records requests, and case summaries for administrative review. Strong attention to detail and communication are essential.

Qualifications

• Admission to Ohio Bar pursuant to Section 4705.01 of Revised Code

The chairs of the education committees of the Ohio House of Representatives and Ohio Senate serve as non-voting ex officio members. The Superintendent of Public Instruction serves as secretary of the State Board of Education.

The Office for Professional Conduct administers the ethical standards for educators. The office investigates allegations involving criminal or ethical violations to ensure that all Ohio students receive instruction from educators committed to a safe, supportive and healthy school community.

• Unless required by legislation, the selected candidate will begin at Pay Grade 31, Step 1 ($28.76 per hour), with an opportunity for a pay increase after six months of satisfactory performance to $30.10 per hour, followed by yearly raises in accordance with the Ohio Revised Code or the OCSEA/AFSCME Collective Bargaining Agreement.
