Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Advise employers and plan sponsors on ERISA and employee benefits matters.
• Manage qualified retirement plans, including 401(k) and pension arrangements.
• Address non-qualified deferred compensation and ERISA compliance.
• Draft and review plan documents, amendments and related materials.
• Support fiduciary duties, prohibited transactions, and 409A/280G matters.
• Assist with M&A-related health and welfare plan matters and regulatory submissions.

The Opportunity

A nationally recognised law firm is seeking an experienced attorney to join its growing Employee Benefits & Executive Compensation practice.

The group advises major employers, plan sponsors, fiduciaries and corporate clients on sophisticated ERISA and employee benefits matters, with particular emphasis on retirement plans, benefits compliance, executive compensation and transactional support.

The position offers exposure to a broad range of advisory, regulatory and transactional matters and would suit an attorney looking to continue developing a sophisticated Employee Benefits practice within an established national platform.

The Role

Depending on experience, responsibilities may include:

• Advisising employers and plan sponsors on ERISA and employee benefits matters
• Qualified retirement plans, including 401(k), pension and other tax-qualified arrangements
• Non-qualified deferred compensation arrangements
• ERISA and Internal Revenue Code compliance
• Drafting and reviewing plan documents, amendments and related materials
• Fiduciary duties, prohibited transactions and other ERISA compliance matters
• Executive compensation, equity and incentive arrangements
• Section 409A and 280G matters
• Employee benefits and executive compensation aspects of M&A transactions
• IRS and DOL audits, correction programs and regulatory submissions
• Health and welfare plan matters
• Advising clients on legislative and regulatory developments affecting their benefit arrangements

Attorneys within the group work directly with clients while collaborating with colleagues across corporate, tax, employment and other complementary practices.

Candidate Profile

The firm is interested in attorneys who have:

• 3+ years of Employee Benefits, ERISA and/or Executive Compensation experience
• Experience practising within a law firm environment
• Strong experience advising employers, plan sponsors and/or corporate clients
• Experience with qualified retirement plans and ERISA compliance
• Exposure to one or more complementary areas such as executive compensation, 409A, 280G, health and welfare plans or transactional benefits work
• Strong drafting, analytical and client-facing skills
• Active bar admission in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
