Job description

Our law firm is looking for an attorney who is ready to represent our existing client base. The ideal candidate will work closely with the firm’s clients, administrative staff, and senior partners. If you have the ability to handle a diverse caseload, have stellar research and writing skills, can communicate effectively, and use today’s technology well.

Responsibilities
  • Advise clients by weighing available options toward a successful outcome and plan a course of action
  • Manage administrative assistants, paralegals, and law clerks
  • Draft correspondence, legal pleadings, motions, and briefs
  • Identify client conflicts and determine case strategies with options for resolution
  • Complete legal research and prepare motions, pleadings, and briefs
  • Passion for lawyering and being in the courtroom, making a difference
  • Honesty is critical, and good ethical character is essential
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with clients who are often frightened and facing serious consequences
  • Conduct thorough initial client interviews and serve as their primary point of contact throughout their case
  • Explain legal options, strategy, and likely outcomes in plain language - clients need to understand what's happening and feel heard
  • Respond to client calls and inquiries promptly - a 4:30 PM Friday call gets the same care as a Monday morning one
  • Counsel clients through difficult decisions with empathy and clarity, not just legal expertise
  • Represent clients across multiple courts and counties in Middle Tennessee
  • Collaborate with senior partners and support staff to manage a docket efficiently
Qualifications
  • Must be able to handle heavy caseload with little supervision
  • Communication, problem-solving, decision‑making, interpersonal, and public speaking skills required
  • Must be a member of your local bar association - active member preferred
  • Prior experience working in a law firm for a minimum of 1-2 years required
  • Successful completion of accredited law school with Juris Doctorate (J.D.) degree with 2 years of related experience
  • 3+ years of Criminal Law experience
  • Former prosecutor or public defender experience strongly preferred: We have 2 former DA's, 1 former PD, and 1 former Magistrate on staff. While we value the prosecutor mindset, we also highly value the client management skills of a Public Defender for this role
  • High Emotional Intelligence (EQ): You must be able to navigate difficult situations with grace. We hire for personality as much as skill
  • Ability to explain complex legal situations to clients in plain, compassionate language
  • Resilience: Ability to handle the "ups and downs" of a criminal docket and high‑anxiety client interactions without losing your cool
  • Able to manage a high‑volume docket across multiple counties without losing focus on each individual client
  • Tech‑Savvy: Must be comfortable with modern case management software (we are a digital‑first firm)
  • Admitted to practice law in Tennessee
Responsibilities (continued)
  • Advise clients by weighing available options toward a successful outcome and plan a course of action
  • Manage administrative assistants, paralegals, and law clerks
  • Draft correspondence, legal pleadings, motions, and briefs
  • Identify client conflicts and determine case strategies with options for resolution
  • Complete legal research and prepare motions, pleadings, and briefs
  • Passion for lawyering and being in the courtroom, making a difference
