Job Title: Staff Attorney / Senior Staff Attorney

Employment Type: Contract

Work Arrangement: Fully Remote

Pay range :-$81.00/hr. - $91.00/hr.

Location of Appearances: California Workers' Compensation Appeals Boards (Marina Del Rey, Los Angeles, Van Nuys, and Oxnard)

Position Overview

The Staff or Senior Staff Attorney is a fully remote, in-house contract role responsible for managing a designated caseload of Workers’ Compensation defense matters. The position includes handling cases through litigation and making remote appearances before various California Workers’ Compensation Appeals Boards.

This role may be filled at either the Staff Attorney or Senior Staff Attorney level, depending on experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze complex legal and factual issues and conduct comprehensive legal research
  • Develop and present well-reasoned defense strategies on behalf of clients
  • Draft complex pleadings, written discovery, depositions, petitions for reconsideration, and trial briefs with autonomy
  • Partner with Claims professionals to drive favorable outcomes
  • Provide timely legal advice and case updates to clients
  • Communicate professionally with courts, witnesses, opposing counsel, and co-counsel
  • Manage cases efficiently to ensure prompt resolution
  • Prepare and present witnesses and evidence at trials or administrative hearings
  • Research, draft, file, and argue appellate briefs in reviewing courts
Qualifications
Staff Attorney Requirements
  • Minimum 2 years of legal practice experience handling Workers’ Compensation cases
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
  • Active license to practice law in the State of California
  • Trial experience preferred but not required
  • Strong legal research and writing skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • LexisNexis experience is a plus
  • Self-directed with strong organizational and prioritization skills
  • Collaborative and team-oriented mindset
Senior Staff Attorney Requirements
  • Minimum 5 years of legal practice experience handling complex or life pension Workers’ Compensation cases
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
  • Active license to practice law in the State of California
  • Trial experience preferred
  • Excellent legal research and writing skills
  • LexisNexis experience is a plus
  • Strong computer skills with the ability to quickly learn new software
  • Self-directed with exceptional organizational and prioritization skills
  • Collaborative and positive team-player attitude
