Job summary

Goodwill Central Coast is seeking a donation attendant to warmly greet donors, perform initial sorting, and help with packing and stacking donations at the loading area. You will record daily activities and assist drivers with loading items as required.

The role emphasizes safety, customer service, and working outdoors in varying weather. On-the-job training is provided, and basic English communication is essential.

JOB SUMMARY: Receive donations in a friendly and courteous manner to encourage continued community support. Following established procedures, perform preliminary sorting before packing/stacking/donations assigned protocol.ESSENTIAL DUTIESOpen location, survey supplies and capacity, report the number and type of large items requiring truck pickup and place status calls to supervisor according to defined procedures.Greet donors at their vehicle in a friendly and polite manner and hand donor a receipt. Following defined procedures, accept or reject items for donation; explain reasons for item rejection. Hand donor explanation sheet if rejecting items.Record time and relevant information on daily record.Sort and stack donations into designated containers, ensuring items are tagged appropriately to contents.Maintain clean/neat location both inside/outside.Close and secure location at designated times.Place large and/or heavy items as designated by supervisor.Assist drivers with loading and transfer of items and trailers.Report location status at the end of the day through computer/tablet application and/or telephone call.SECONDARY DUTIESDepending on location, may assist with warehouse donation drop-offs.Perform related duties as assigned.JOB SPECIFICATIONSEDUCATION REQUIRED: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQ’D: None.EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: None. Approximately 70% - 90% of the workday is spent outdoors.Separating household chemicals from regular donations may occur.PHYSICAL DEMANDSThe job requires frequent lifting of items weighing up to 25 lbs, with regular lifting of items weighing up to 50 lbs. Large or heavier items (51 lbs. or more) will be moved either with assistance from another person or by using proper material handling equipment. Large and/or heavy furniture items are pushed (when possible) next to the trailer. The attendant assists with loading of items on truck during Goodwill Central Coast’s site servicing.
