Job summary

Goodwill Central Coast is seeking a dock associate to load and unload donations, perform initial sorting, and transport materials to processing areas. The role requires basic English communication and comfort with material handling equipment.

Training is provided on-the-job in a busy dock environment with variable weather. Responsibilities include assisting with baler/compactor use where applicable, maintaining safe work practices, and cooperating with teammates to meet daily donation processing

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Basic math abilities required.
• Ability to operate material handling equipment safely.
• Basic English communication; some Spanish may be acceptable depending on location.

JOB SUMMARYPerform a variety of duties in the sorting and transporting of donated goods, which may include loading or off-loading items from trucks and trailers, performing initial sort of textiles and hard sort items, and transporting materials as required.ESSENTIAL DUTIESDuties may include any or all of the following:Load trucks and trailers by placing materials for delivery to stores.Off-load donations from trucks and trailers by removing materials and placing in designated areas.Perform initial donation processing prior to distribution to various processing departmentsTransport materials to appropriate departments and locations.Depending on position, use of baler and compactor, following defined procedures.SECONDARY DUTIESPerform related duties as assigned.JOB SPECIFICATIONSEDUCATION REQUIRED: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED: None.EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: None. The temperature and exposure to elements will fluctuate depending on weather conditions. Dust and dirt is controlled by daily cleaning of work area. There are occasional fumes from the trucks. There is occasional handling of household toxic products received in donations. Work is completed independently but in cooperation with whole department. There is occasional contact with public who donate at the dock. The noise volume is moderately high throughout the day depending on the amount of activity, equipment and vehicles in operation and radio operation. Material handling equipment (forklift, hand truck, movable containers/racks) and trucks may be operated in or near work area. The job includes occasionally walking on uneven ground when going up and down ramps or stairs; otherwise, ground/work surface is even.PHYSICAL DEMANDSThe job requires consistent lifting of objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
