Job summary

NFP, an Aon company, seeks a Benefits Compliance attorney to advise and guide on compliance with health and welfare laws including ERISA, PPACA, COBRA, HIPAA, and related statutes. The role involves audits, seminars, and training within the Atlantic Region, with proximity preferred to support travel to clients and offices.

The candidate should have a minimum of 4 years in employee benefits/compliance, may have a law degree but is not required, and CEBS is a plus.

• Must have knowledge of laws and regulations governing health and welfare plans.
• Must have clear communication skills and ability to explain compliance in accessible language to internal and external stakeholders.
• Must be a self-motivated worker with strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks to meet deadlines

• Must have a strong sense of business ethics and integrity
• Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality in regard to work performed and access to information/data
• Must maintain a professional and positive attitude

Responsibilities

• Perform compliance checklist reviews for key and national account clients, including pre-checklist review and detailed follow-up in coordination with account management teams.
• Respond to benefits compliance questions in a timely manner, often within 24 hours.
• Stay abreast of the changing legislative and regulatory landscape, to include statutory legislation and regulation impacting the Region.
• Attend internal Benefits Compliance Team meetings regularly.
• Attend internal regional and office-specific meetings (Team Lead, office-specific, etc.) regularly.
• Own or co-own regional compliance initiatives in conjunction with regional sales and account management leaders, including regular regional decisions, education, and webinar training.
• Communicate and educate account teams (and clients, as relevant) on compliance initiatives and resources, including Compliance Toolkits, Publications, and NFP Connect.
• Conduct or support benefits compliance seminars and webinars.
• Contribute to the overall mission of the Benefits Compliance Department including other duties as assigned by the team and/or the Regional Leads.
