Job summary

The University of California, Berkeley seeks a Principal Campus Counsel to serve as a senior attorney in the Office of Legal Affairs, advising Intercollegiate Athletics and executive leadership on a broad range of legal matters.

They will lead labor and employment work, commercial agreements, governance and compliance, and enterprise risk management while coordinating with campus partners and external counsel as needed.

Qualifications

• Extensive and progressively responsible legal experience.
• Demonstrated expertise in California labor and employment law.
• Significant experience drafting and negotiating complex employment and commercial agreements.
• Experience representing organizations in litigation, investigations, and administrative proceedings.
• Demonstrated ability to advise executive leadership on highly complex legal and business matters.
• Advanced knowledge of NCAA regulations, governance, and higher education law.

Responsibilities

• Advise Athletics leadership on complex legal matters and strategic initiatives.
• Draft, negotiate, and manage complex employment and commercial agreements.
• Collaborate with Ethics, Risk & Compliance and campus partners to identify risks and solutions.
• Represent the University in litigation, administrative proceedings, and negotiations.
• Provide legal education and training to Athletics leadership and stakeholders.
