Job description

VCU Athletics is seeking an hourly lead facilities assistant.

Position Responsibilities:

The Lead Facilities Assistant for Athletics will help fulfill the VCU Athletics Mission Statement by assisting the facilities and events department. The Lead Assistant will gain facility and event management knowledge while experiencing NCAA Division I athletics. This position will assist during athletic and non-athletic events, including set ups, break downs, and after-hours coverage of facilities. Lead Assistants should be familiar with facility policies, procedures, and risk management practices.

Work hours depend on the athletic and special event schedule. Reporting to the Associate Athletic Director for Facilities & Event Management, this position requires flexibility, a positive attitude, and adaptability to new situations.

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Attend yearly orientations and acknowledge policies and procedures;
  • Assist in daily and game day management for athletic competitions, events, meetings, fairs, and concerts;
  • Secure athletic facilities during after-hours from Monday through Sunday;
  • Assist with set-ups, breakdowns, and turnovers during unusual work hours;
  • Complete event setup promptly, sometimes within a short timeframe;
  • Oversee visiting team practices, walk-throughs, and shoot-arounds while maintaining facility policies;
  • Conduct facility walk-throughs and track maintenance projects;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Interest in athletics, facilities, or event management;
  • Reliability, punctuality, and good communication skills;
  • Self-motivated and able to work in a team;
  • Willingness to work in all weather conditions;
  • Knowledge of risk management practices;
  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs., stand for long periods, and use stairways and ladders.

Physical Requirements:

Lifting over 50 lbs., exposure to extreme heat/cold, noise, vibrations, and a fast-paced environment with multiple stimuli and frequent changes. Requires good memory, reasoning, hearing, reading, analyzing, and logical skills.
