Job summary

The Archdiocese of Chicago is seeking an Athletic Director for St. Viator Elementary School to lead and oversee the school’s interscholastic sports programs in alignment with the mission and values of the Archdiocese.

You will coordinate coaches, volunteers, and events, develop a program handbook, and ensure safety and compliance with state standards. The role requires collaboration across staff and families and attendance at league meetings.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated interest and background in athletics and youth development.
• Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
• Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and work with diverse groups.
• Experience in education, coaching, or athletic program administration preferred.
• Must complete concussion certification and background checks prior to start date.
• Availability during after-school hours and weekends as needed.

Responsibilities

• Serve as liaison between coaches, parents, student-athletes, staff, and administrators to ensure clear, effective communication.
• Develop and maintain a local athletic handbook outlining program philosophy, academics, behavior expectations, and codes of conduct for coaches, parents, and volunteers.
• Clearly communicate the athletic program’s philosophy to all stakeholders and ensure adherence.
• Attend Chicago Catholic Youth League (CCYL) and St. Viator Athletic Association meetings; represent the school in sports activities.
• Commissioner of St. Viator Volleyball League Invitational.
• Set and enforce criteria for recruitment, selection, evaluation, and monitoring of all coaches.
• Coordinate, schedule, and supervise all program volunteers and staff.
• Ensure safety guidelines and background checks for coaches and volunteers.
• Determine league participation and make team-formation decisions per policy.
• Develop and coordinate practice, game, and tournament schedules; communicate schedules timely.
• Oversee planning and execution of athletic events with staffing and supervision.
• Prepare and present annual budget; manage participation fees and expenditures.
• Develop Emergency Plan and concussion safety compliance; coordinate risk management.
