Texas A&M International University in Laredo, TX seeks a Director of Athletics to oversee the 11-team intercollegiate program and manage the Athletics Department.

The role reports to the President, ensures compliance with NCAA by-laws and Lone Star Conference rules, and leads budgeting, staffing, fundraising, and community engagement. Evening/weekend hours and travel may be required to lead a competitive athletics program.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in applicable field.
  • Ten years of progressively responsible management experience.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and oversee long-range goals and strategic planning and implement policies and procedures to support these goals and plans.
  • Ensure strict adherence to NCAA by-laws, Lone Star Conference regulations, and institutional compliance rules, policies and procedures, as well as ethical standards of behavior.
  • Manage all administrative work related to NCAA Division II membership.
  • Ensure satisfactory academic performance of student-athletes along with their welfare.
  • Establish and ensure a safe environment for student-athletes including addressing harassment, hazing, or discrimination.
  • Hire, train, evaluate, and supervise department staff and coaches.
  • Develop annual departmental budget and maintain budgetary controls including travel and expenditures.
  • Coordinate dissemination of information regarding athletic activities to media and University/community.
