Job Summary

The Certified Athletic Trainer (AT) reports to the Sports Medicine Manager. The AT will be assigned to a high school and provide community-based point of service for sports‑related prevention, care, coverage and rehabilitation, referral, and marketing for musculoskeletal injuries and sports‑related ailments within a defined environment for athletes of school age, adolescent, early adult, middle adult and late adult. The AT works under the general supervision of a physician, physical therapist, physician assistant, or nurse practitioner.

Responsibilities
  • Assigned to a high school to deliver community‑based services for sports injury prevention, care, coverage, rehabilitation, referral, and marketing.
  • Work under the general supervision of a physician, physical therapist, physician assistant, or nurse practitioner.
Qualifications & Education
  • Graduate of an accredited college with a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts; a master’s degree in athletic training preferred.
  • Strong verbal and non‑verbal communication skills to interact effectively with a wide variety of age groups, including school‑aged adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
  • Availability for weekend and evening hours to cover practices, games, tournaments, and special events.
Licensure & Certification
  • Board of Certification for Athletic Trainers (BOC) certification.
  • Licensed as an athletic trainer in South Carolina by DHEC.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (American Heart Association BLS or American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider).
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, sit, walk, climb stairs, work indoors, outdoors in temperature extremes, from elevated areas, in confined or cramped spaces, kneeling positions, bend, twist, squat, perform pinching operations, gross motor activities with fingers and hands, firm grasp, fine manipulation, reach overhead, and repetitive motions with hands, wrists, elbows, and shoulders.
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 lb unassisted; lift/lower 50 lb objects from/to floor up to 36 inches unassisted; lift 25 lb objects from 36" to overhead; exert up to 50 lb of force.
  • Maintain 20/40 vision, hearing acuity, peripheral vision, and ability to deal effectively with stressful situations; work rotating shifts, overtime as required; work in a latex‑safe environment; maintain tactile, olfactory sensory functions; qualified for respirator use.
