Job Overview

This position provides, within the legal limitations, medical and rehabilitative care to patients. The role includes preventative, rehabilitative, and emergency care to help patients achieve optimal functioning through therapeutic exercises, activities, modalities, and skills. Responsibilities include performing initial evaluations, coordinating treatment plans, monitoring progress, and referring patients to appropriate sources as needed. The position must comply with departmental, organizational, and JCAHO policies and may involve work with high school students at training facilities or on the field, following all applicable school policies.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training or a related field.
  • Board of Certification (BOC) for Athletic Trainers or eligibility to obtain it.
  • Athletic Training license or eligibility to become licensed within 6 months of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certification.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Performs initial evaluation of patients, including obtaining medical history and conducting physical examinations.
  • Presents evaluation results and collaborates with attending physicians to determine treatment plans.
  • Coordinates treatment plan elements, monitors patient progress, and ensures adherence to the plan.
  • Ensures that recommended equipment or therapies are obtained or performed in a timely manner.
  • Provides routine medical care such as minor dressing changes and suture or staple removal for post‑operative patients.
  • Delivers health education and maintenance services.
  • Manages triage and referral for primary care patients presenting with new symptoms.
  • Maintains accurate medical records for all injuries and rehabilitation procedures.
  • Assists with various non‑essential and non‑clinical tasks to support the quality of care within the department.
  • When assigned to work with high school students, responsibilities include developing athletic training coverage plans for all identified interscholastic events, maintaining a budget for supplies and equipment, creating venue‑specific emergency action plans, establishing relationships with team physicians, community physicians, and school nursing staff, complying with school health policies, and completing annual concussion training per state requirements.
