Job summary

Carroll Community College is seeking a part-time Athletic Trainer to provide athletic training services throughout the competitive seasons. The candidate will work closely with student-athletes and coaching staff to ensure proper injury prevention, care, and documentation.

Qualifications

  • Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) and licensed in Maryland as an Athletic Trainer (LAT).
  • 1-3 years experience as an athletic trainer, preferably at NJCAA or NCAA level.

Job Summary

Provide athletic training services from pre-season through the end of the competitive seasons and maintain the requirements of athletic training for intercollegiate teams. This position reports to the Athletic Director.

Essential Job Functions
  • Responsible for prevention, emergency care, first aid, evaluation, and rehabilitation of injuries to student-athletes
  • Consult with coaching staff on conditioning, nutrition, and protective equipment
  • Assist with the prevention of injuries including education for athletes, identifying factors that put athletes at risk, correcting deficiencies in athletes as deemed necessary, as well as taping and bracing
  • Develop, supervise, evaluate, and modify individual exercise programs for athletes
  • Establish a positive learning environment that promotes a high level of achievement for all students/athletes
  • Collect and log medical clearance paperwork from each athlete in a timely fashion
  • Communicate directly with student athletes for outstanding required medical clearance paperwork
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive medical clearance paperwork, injury reports, treatment logs and medical documentation including the digitization of records as required
  • Communicate regularly with the Athletic Director, Coaches and other institutions’ Athletic Training Teams
  • Provide on-site coverage for all home contests at two locations
  • Provide coverage at practices throughout the school year for in-season teams, allowing access to the athletic training room
  • Deliver ice, water and medical supplies to support game day operations to all practice and home contests
  • Assist with tents, tables and chairs for game day
  • Complete administrative duties and other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements to Perform Work
  • Bachelor’s degree in athletic training, Sports Medicine or related field
  • One – three years hands on or clinical experience as an athletic trainer (preferably NJCAA or NCAA level)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a broad and diverse population of students, families, peers, and colleagues
  • Knowledge and training in first aid procedures for handling athletic-related injuries.
  • Must be a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) and be licensed in Maryland as an Athletic Trainer (LAT).

  • Repetitive motion (i.e., keyboarding)
  • Stand/sit/walk/able to move or traverse from one area to another
Work Environment

College campus, direct contact with students, staff, faculty and the general public in classrooms, common and shared areas, offices, campus environments, training facility, and outdoors as required for athletic practices/events. Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as office, meeting, and training rooms. Use of safe workplace practices with office equipment; computers for data entry and word processing with some highly technical applications and new technology systems; avoidance of trips and falls; observance of fire, workplace and building safety regulations and all College policies. Observance of traffic laws when/if driving a college vehicle. This is a year-round position. Evenings and some weekends may be required for athletic events. Weekly hours August-October are estimated at 20-29 hours; otherwise, typical weekly hours are estimated at 15-20 hours.

  • Be able to work on campus as of the first day of employment
  • Residency restrictions apply: The college does not hire solely online instructors living outside of Maryland. Carroll employees may live in other states, but they must physically work in Maryland the majority of the time. For income tax obligations, employees must be a resident of DC, VA, WV, MD, or PA on the date employment commences. In addition, candidates must be willing to come to campus for identity verification within 3 business days of hire date.
