JOB DESCRIPTION: This is a .5 FTE position at Washington-Liberty High School .
The assistant athletic trainer works under the supervision of the head athletic trainer and supervises the care of student athletes. The assistant athletic trainer is responsible for athletic training services to include but not limited to the prevention, evaluation, management and rehabilitation of injuries.
This position works daily (immediately following the HS dismissal) with the primary role to assist in concussion management of student athletes. RESPONSIBILITIES: Prevention of athletic injuries and illnesses.Evaluation of athletic injuries.Treatment of athletic injuries.Providing counseling and education to student athletes.Works under the direct supervision of the athletic trainer and general supervision of the Director of Student Activities.Athletic training administrative duties.Assist with coordination and scheduling of medical coverage for home and away competitions.Recordkeeping and documentation of injuries, treatments and provide insurance claim forms for sports injuries treated by a physician.Work with doctors and other allied health professionals to deliver athletic training services to student athletes acting as liaison between family physicians and specialists, the school district, athletes and their parents. EXPERIENCE: Experience teaching high school students. QUALIFICATIONS: Must have or be eligible for Virginia licensure as a Certified Athletic Trainer.Ability and willingness to work as a team member with general education staff.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.Knowledge of computers and variety of software used in athletic training services program (ie. IMPACT, SIMS, etc.) Dual endorsement in English as a Second Language and/or Special Education, or in any other content area, is preferred but not required.
