Job description

TRIA is looking to hire an Outreach Athletic Trainerto join our Sports Medicine team! Come join us as a Partner for Good and help us make an impact on the care and experience that our patients and their families receive every day.

Position Summary:

The Athletic Trainer (AT) is a multi-skilled healthcare professional who collaborates with physicians and other healthcare providers to optimize health, wellness, activity and participation of patients and clients across age and care continuums. Services provided by athletic trainers include injury and illness prevention, wellness promotion and education, emergent care, examination and clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention, and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions.

The TRIA Athletic Trainer will utilize broad-based skills in patient care, ancillary services, and business office practices, always upholding all aspects of customer service and patient care. The AT will be responsible for the coordination of care for all patients in their department and will interact across the enterprise to facilitate necessary services for continuation of care in accordance with PNHS standards and policies.

The duties of the Outreach Athletic Trainer working across TRIA’s contracted outreach sites will include independent daily operations and administration of the athletic training room, including scheduling, inventory, materials and supplies procurement, emergency preparedness, establishment of policies, including annual review of policies. Provide and coordinate preventative measures and direct medical services for student-athletes/patients at assigned outreach location(s) where TRIA is designated as the medical provider.The AT will provide preventative services, emergency care, triage, history and evaluation, diagnosis, therapeutic interventions and rehabilitation, post-injury and post-operative management and rehabilitation, splinting and DME fitting and application, after visit and pre-procedure education, home care instruction, documentation, patient care management and communication including referrals, coordination of care and scheduling across the enterprise while in the athletic training room or on the playing surface/sideline. Makes independent, autonomous medical decisionsand acts as a liaison between the student-athlete, parents, coaches, school officials, and other medical providers, as well as ensuring proper referrals as needed, and collaborating care with team physician and/or other TRIA medical staff.

The duties of the Outreach Athletic Trainer may include working across one or more of TRIA’s clinics as a portion of their duties. Clinic duties may include check-in, standard rooming, history and evaluation, diagnosis, clinical procedures, medication preparation, post-operative management, wound care, casting, splinting, DME fitting and application, triage, therapeutic intervention, and rehabilitation, after visit and pre-procedure education, documentation, scribing,patient care management and communication including coordination of care across the enterprise, scheduling, and patient discharge.

The TRIA Outreach Athletic Trainer will also provide communication to area high schools, clubs, teams, colleges/universities, and other community ATs on patient injury status and return to play as well as communicate with education and employer health staff on injury status and return to school or work. The AT is expected to exhibit leadership qualities and always serve as a professional role model within their work site. Other duties of the Outreach AT will include representation of the TRIA Sports Medicine Programs by providing athletic training services at additional games and events outside of the AT’s primary contracted site as directed by the sports medicine programs manager where TRIA is designated as the medical provider and/or medical partner. The TRIA Outreach AT will participate in new business development, as well as specialty program development, growth, and execution (Ex. injury prevention and performance programs, TRIA Sport Concussion, performing arts). The AT may represent TRIA at Community Education, Marketing, and Continuing Medical Education events and activities as a subject matter expert. The AT will represent self and TRIA based on the TRIA Employee Traits and will always maintain a positive attitude and the highest level of professionalism across all duties.

All TRIA Outreach Athletic Trainers will be in an outreach setting, working independently at least .5 to 1.0 of their FTE. Remaining FTE from .2 to .5 of their time may be spent in one or more of TRIA’s clinic sites in the AT Navigator or Clinical AT roles.

Work Schedule:

.90 FTE, Days with some nights/weekends.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education, Experience or Equivalent Combination:
    • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Licensure/ Registration/ Certification:
    • Current BOC Certified Athletic Trainer required.
    • Current License with the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice required.
    • NATA member in good standing.
    • Must have a valid NPI number.
    • Must be able to drive and operate the TRIA Mobile. Must have valid driver’s license and meet the insurability requirement relating to Park Nicollet’s motor vehicle violation criteria.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Basic computer/keyboarding/mouse skills required.
    • Demonstrates knowledge of age-related growth and development principles necessary to provide appropriate service and ensure safety of patients.
    • Proficient use of athletic training apparatus related to area of expertise.
    • Safely and effectively operate the following: Various Health Testing Equipment (depending upon specialty area), Personal Computer, Photocopier, Printer, FAX Machine, and Telephone.
    • Proficient in Microsoft office, electronic medical records, PACS (radiology software), ECG, dynamap, defibrillator, and various Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine tests/equipment/braces/splinting.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Education, Experience or Equivalent Combination:
    • Master’s degree preferred.
    • At least 1 year of Athletic Training experience preferred.
  • Licensure/ Registration/ Certification:
    • NA
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Strong clinical and human relations skills are required.
    • Ability to effectively communicate both orally, and in writing.
    • Maintains standards of clinical skills and professional ethics as established by the NATA and BOC.
    • Can make autonomous decisions regarding patient care related issues and be able to make independent decisions based on scope of practice and protocols established with their physician.
    • Excellent interpersonal, listening, critical thinking and organizational skills. Team player that collaborates to achieve highest outcomes.
