Job summary

The Certified Athletic Trainer supports Duke Orthopaedics Heritage by providing clinical and administrative support in a multi-disciplinary outpatient setting at 3000 Rogers Rd, Wake Forest, NC 27587. Job Summary:

The Certified Athletic Trainer supports Duke Orthopaedics Heritage by providing clinical and administrative support for orthopaedic providers in a multi-disciplinary outpatient setting. This role assists with patient intake, clinical preparation, provider support, patient education, care coordination, and clinic flow to help ensure safe, efficient, and patient centered care.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Room patients, obtain and document appropriate clinical history, and prepare patients for evaluation by the provider.
  • Assist providers with patient care activities during clinic, including orthopaedic assessments, brace fitting, patient education, home exercise instruction, and coordination of follow up care.
  • Support clinic flow by monitoring provider schedules, anticipating patient care needs, and assisting with timely movement of patients through the visit.
  • Review upcoming schedules and assist with pre visit planning, including identifying missing imaging, outside records, reports, referrals, or other documentation needed for the visit.
  • Assist with in-office procedures and treatments within scope, including preparation of supplies, patient positioning, patient education, and post visit instructions.
  • Apply, remove, and provide patient education for durable medical equipment, braces, splints, and other orthopaedic support devices as appropriate.
  • Document patient care activities accurately and timely in the electronic medical record according to Duke Health standards and clinic expectations.
  • Communicate with patients, providers, and internal teams regarding clinical questions, care coordination needs, and follow up instructions within role expectations.
  • Support quality, safety, infection prevention, and regulatory readiness efforts, including maintaining clean clinical spaces, checking supplies, monitoring expiration dates, and following established clinic workflows.
  • Participate in daily huddles, staff meetings, process improvement initiatives, and other operational efforts designed to improve patient experience, access, safety, and clinic efficiency.
  • Assist with patient phone calls, MyChart messages, forms, work notes, and other clinical support tasks as directed by providers and clinic leadership.
  • Maintain professional licensure, certification, continuing education requirements, and compliance with Duke Health policies and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support the needs of the clinic, department, and patient care team.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager or HCA.

JOB ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in athletic training or equivalent from a CAATE accredited program required
  • NATABOC Certification (National Athletic Trainers Association-Board of Certification) is required

JOB SCHEDULE

Day Shift- Monday-Friday with no evenings, weekends or Duke scheduled holidays.
