Job summary

Duke Orthopaedic Clinic in Morrisville, NC, is seeking an Athletic Trainer to provide direct and indirect patient care at our Duke Orthopaedic Clinic location in Morrisville, NC.

The role requires a four‑year degree in athletic training with NATABOC certification and NC licensure, plus CPR certification. Master’s degree preferred and of course adherence to Duke’s standards and policies is expected.

Qualifications

  • Four‑year college degree in athletic training; master’s preferred.
  • NATABOC certification is required.
  • Licensed by NC Board of Athletic Trainer Examiners.
  • Current CPR certification is required.

Responsibilities

  • Room patients, take histories, document HPI, chart, and educate patients.
  • Prepare clinics, obtain test results, verify insurance, and coordinate referrals.
  • Autoclaving, cleaning exam rooms, restocking supplies, and maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Follow HR, Compliance and Joint Commission policies; respond to emergencies as needed.
  • Apply cast/splints to extremities and assist with DME in clinic.
  • Assist with postoperative evaluations and note co-signing by physician or APP.
  • Other duties as assigned by manager or HR.

Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training
Master's degree preferred

ATHLETIC TRAINER ORTHOPAEDICS

JOB LOCATION: Duke Orthopaedic Clinic, Morrisville, NC

JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking an Athletic Trainer to provide direct and indirect care to patients at Duke Orthopaedic Clinic located in Morrisville, NC.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Patient Care: rooming patients, collecting histories, documenting first-pass HPI, charting, answering phone calls, completing forms, patient education, and setting up and maintaining sterile fields.
  • Clerical Duties: prepping clinics, obtaining test results, updating charts, verifying insurance, obtaining authorizations, and coordinating referrals and appointments.
  • Fulfill EOC Responsibilities: cleaning exam rooms, ordering and stocking supplies, restocking exam rooms, cleaning exam tables, maintaining a safe work environment by checking for expired supplies and medications, and emptying sharps containers.
  • Organizational Duties: promoting patient rights, responding to emergency codes, and following HR, Compliance, and Joint Commission policies.
  • Additional State-Law Duties: autoclaving, checking vital signs, suture removal, dressing changes, entering orders based on physician protocols, handling biohazard waste, and applying DME to a patient.
  • Apply cast and basic splints to upper and lower extremities and accurately fit all DME products used in the clinic.
  • Evaluate patients during their first post‑operative visit; a physician or APP must be present to support the ATC if needed. The note generated by the ATC will be co‑signed by the MD or APP.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager or HCA.
JOB ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
  • A four‑year college degree meeting the requirements of an athletic trainer. Master’s preferred.
  • NATABOC Certification (National Athletic Trainers Association‑Board of Certification) is required.
  • Licensed by NC Board of Athletic Trainer Examiners.
  • Current CPR certification.
