Job summary

UC San Diego in La Jolla seeks an Assistant Athletic Trainer to support prevention, evaluation and care of athletic injuries. The role develops and administers a comprehensive sports medical program for Intercollegiate Athletics, aligned with NCAA and conference standards.

The incumbent will be present at home events, cover practices, and collaborate with team physicians and staff. Night/weekend work and travel are required; a cover letter is required for a complete application.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or graduate equivalent from a CAATE-accredited athletic training education program; Master’s preferred.
  • One year (two years preferred) post-graduate experience in athletic training under direct supervision of an NATA-certified athletic trainer.
  • Current certification in American Red Cross First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer with AED, or equivalent; instructor certification preferred.
  • NATABOC certification in good standing; at least one year post-degree experience.
  • CPR/AED and First Aid certifications (Instructor level preferred).
  • Sound knowledge of athletic injury prevention and rehabilitation modalities and athletic training operations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in prevention, evaluation, treatment, and care of athletic injuries.
  • Develop, coordinate, and administer a comprehensive sports medical program for Intercollegiate Athletics.
  • Be present at home and some away events; provide care during practices and events; maintain office hours.
  • Follow UC San Diego athletic department policies and NCAA/NAIA rules; work with diverse teams.
