Job summary

San Diego State University seeks an Assistant Athletic Trainer (Chaperone) to support the health, safety, and performance of student‑athletes. You will provide comprehensive athletic training services, injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and emergency care for assigned varsity teams.

Work with physicians, coaches, and staff to promote well‑being and regulatory compliance, maintain records, and contribute to a professional healthcare environment.

Qualifications

• Equivalent to bachelor’s degree in athletic training, physical education, kinesiology or related field; BOC curriculum completed.
• Certification by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification.
• CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and first aid certifications required.
• Valid California Driver’s License or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive athletic training services including injury prevention, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation.
• Provide medical coverage for practices, competitions, conditioning sessions and events; manage emergencies and referrals.
• Collaborate with physicians, coaches, and staff on injury status and rehab progress.
• Maintain medical records, clinic schedules, and documentation in line with university and NCAA requirements.
• Serve as a preceptor for athletic training students and promote professional, collaborative care.
