Job description

Overview

The Athletic Trainer for the Reading Royals is responsible for the prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries to players. This role plays a critical part in maintaining player health, readiness, and performance. The Athletic Trainer works closely with the coaching staff, team physician, and strength and conditioning personnel to ensure a comprehensive and effective sports medicine program.

This position pays an annual salary of $65,000-$70,000.

This position will remain open until August 22, 2025.

Responsibilities
  • Provide immediate care and injury evaluation during all practices, games, and team activities.

  • Design and implement injury prevention programs, including taping, bracing, and therapeutic modalities.

  • Coordinate rehabilitation programs for injured players and oversee their safe return to play.

  • Maintain accurate and confidential medical records for all athletes.

  • Communicate regularly with coaching staff regarding player health, injury status, and participation clearance.

  • Coordinate and communicate with the team physician and other medical professionals as needed.

  • Manage athletic training supplies and maintain an organized and sanitary training room environment.

  • Travel with the team for all road games and provide consistent medical care on the road.

  • Support strength and conditioning efforts to promote player wellness and peak performance.

  • Stay current on best practices in sports medicine, treatment techniques, and ECHL medical protocols.

  • Ensure all health-related policies and procedures comply with team, league, and legal standards.

  • Assist with pre-season physicals, baseline testing, and ongoing medical evaluations.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Coach or General Manager.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training, Sports Medicine, or a related field (Master’s preferred).

  • Current NATA certification and state licensure as an Athletic Trainer (ATC).

  • CPR, AED, and First Aid certification required.

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in athletic training, preferably with a professional or collegiate sports team.

  • Strong knowledge of injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation techniques.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work long hours, including evenings, weekends, and travel.
