As an Onsite Athletic Trainer, you will promote and maintain health and wellbeing within client-based occupational medicine programs, focusing on exceptional patient care and injury prevention. The Certified Athletic Trainer-Onsite (CAT-O) plays a key role in workers’ compensation case management, injury and illness management, health promotion, emergency response, and return-to-work coordination. You will work closely with the client’s Health and Safety Leader to foster a healthier and safer workforce.
Responsibilities
- Provide first aid treatment for musculoskeletal and non-musculoskeletal injuries and illnesses, following Physician Standing Orders, including assessments of range of motion, strength, reflexes, sensory integrity, and functional status.
- Identify, evaluate, and refer injured workers to appropriate healthcare providers for optimal care.
- Respond to onsite medical emergencies according to established action plans and standing orders.
- Assist in managing Workers' Compensation cases through claim documentation and follow-up.
- Collaborate with the client’s HR and management teams on return-to-work (RTW) job placement strategies.
- Track and report MSD-related statistics to stakeholders.
- Manage pre-employment functional testing and vision acuity assessments.
- Coordinate injury prevention initiatives, ergonomic training, and evaluations.
- Conduct comprehensive ergonomic job analyses and support environmental modifications.
- Develop job rotation plans and monitor compliance.
- Provide objective information on physical job requirements for descriptions, restrictions, and legal case management.
- Implement and monitor pre-shift injury prevention activities.
- During rehabilitation, execute treatment plans involving therapeutic exercises, modalities, and work conditioning, adhering to state-specific regulations and Physician Standing Orders.
- Use innovative approaches and employee engagement to develop interventions.
- Administer drug and alcohol testing.
- Promote workplace health and wellbeing.
- Analyze data to evaluate costs related to musculoskeletal disorders.
- Prepare monthly and annual reports on rehabilitation utilization, savings, and cost avoidance.
- Complete administrative tasks such as documentation, reports, and forms promptly.
- Foster a trustful and caring environment encouraging workers to take responsibility for injury and illness prevention.
- Maintain communication with safety personnel regarding rehab and injury prevention activities.
- Participate in meetings and serve on committees as needed.
- Contribute articles for newsletters and intranet content as requested.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in athletic training from an accredited program.
- Current NATA Board of Certification (BOC) Athletic Trainer certification.
- Valid license to practice in the applicable state, if required.
- Current First Aid and CPR/AED certification for the Professional Rescuer or equivalent.
- Proven clinical knowledge of athletic training services suitable for an onsite environment.
- Knowledge of kinesiology and ergonomic assessments.
