Job summary

Altru Health is seeking an Athletic Trainer for Devils Lake, ND. The role covers coordinating and providing patient care in physician practices, and possibly acting as a first assistant in surgery.

You will teach fellows, residents, athletic trainers, and students while supporting the athletic training program across assigned schools or events. The candidate will coordinate site visits, provide concussion management, on-site injury assessment, and ensure compliance with credentialing processes.

Qualifications

  • Requires Athletic Trainer certification and North Dakota/Minnesota eligibility as indicated.
  • Experience coordinating athletic training services and working with physicians and educational staff is preferred.
  • Proficiency in patient education and injury prevention.
  • Ability to assist with surgery as needed and to manage concussion protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate athletic training services at assigned schools, venues or events.
  • Provide patient care and first-assistant support under physician supervision.
  • Administer concussion testing and injury assessments on-site.
  • Manage injury prevention, bracing and casting as required.
  • Lead site visits and event coverage for the athletic training program.

This position is located in Devils Lake. It is a Casual position. The Athletic Trainer may work in many different setting including coordinating and providing patient care in the physicians practice, which may include first assistant in surgery. The Athletic Trainer coordinates the administration of athletic training services at assigned school, venue or events. This position works cooperatively and is actively engaged in the teaching of fellows, residents, athletic trainers, and other student.

Essential Job Functions

Assists with patient education involving the whole patient care and treatment plan according to validated skill level. Performs and functions as a first assistant by demonstrating appropriate skill level of procedures under the supervision of the Orthopedic Physician. Assists student athletes with physician referral and works with providers to return the athlete to play safely. Provides concussion management services utilizing IMPACT testing. Performs on-site injury assessment and treatment including first aid and Basic Life Support (BLS). Performs injury prevention services through identification of predisposing conditions and utilization of protective taping and bracing. Applies and removes all types of casts, appropriate dressings, splints, traction and other orthopedic appliances and equipment. Coordinates the administration of the athletic training program at assigned schools, including site visits, event coverage and sports related education and training. Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.

In order to function as an Athletic Trainer in the Operating Room, each individual must complete the competency assessment and be credentialed through Altru Health System's credentialing process
