Qualifications

  • Develop, manage, and review Emergency Action Plans for facilities and events.
  • Monitor student-athlete medical eligibility and provide clearance information to coaches and AD.
  • Assist in educating student-athletes and coaches on injury prevention and safety topics.

Responsibilities

  • Provide coverage for home athletic contests and practices as assigned, and away contests when necessary.
  • Provide coverage for away varsity football games when available and when it does not conflict with home coverage.
  • Maintain general treatment orders and ensure they are reviewed annually with medical professionals.
  • Serve as liaison among physicians, student-athletes, parents/guardians, coaches, and school staff regarding injuries and care.
  • Maintain confidential records of injuries, evaluations, treatments, and return-to-play status.

Job Summary

The Athletic Trainer is responsible for providing comprehensive athletic training services to Archbishop Carroll High School student-athletes, including injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, emergency care, and return-to-play management. The Athletic Trainer works collaboratively with the Athletic Director, coaches, physicians, healthcare providers, school personnel, student-athletes, and families to promote the health, safety, and overall well-being of all student-athletes.

The Athletic Trainer provides coverage for practices and athletic competitions as assigned and plays an essential role in maintaining a safe environment throughout the Archbishop Carroll Athletics program.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide athletic training services for Archbishop Carroll student-athletes, including injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and emergency care.
  • Provide athletic training coverage for home athletic contests and practices as assigned, as well as away contests when necessary.
  • Provide coverage for all away varsity football games when available and when such coverage does not conflict with required home athletic coverage.
  • Maintain appropriate general treatment orders and ensure they are reviewed and updated annually in consultation with the appropriate medical professionals.
  • Serve as a liaison among physicians, specialists, student-athletes, parents/guardians, coaches, school administrators, and other healthcare providers regarding student-athlete injuries and medical care.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of athletic injuries, evaluations, treatments, rehabilitation, referrals, and return-to-play status in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and school policies.
  • Provide appropriate insurance claim forms and documentation for athletic injuries requiring evaluation or treatment by a physician or other healthcare provider.
  • Develop, manage, and maintain the annual budget for the athletic training program in coordination with the Athletic Director.
  • Develop, maintain, and annually review Emergency Action Plans for all athletic facilities and competition venues. Review appropriate procedures with coaches, athletics staff, and other relevant personnel.
  • Coordinate and be present for pre-participation sports physicals and assist with ensuring required medical documentation is completed prior to student-athlete participation.
  • Monitor student-athlete medical eligibility and provide coaches and the Athletic Director with appropriate information regarding an athlete's clearance and eligibility to participate in accordance with school, conference, district, and state requirements.
  • Communicate promptly with the Athletic Director, coaches, parents/guardians, and appropriate medical personnel regarding significant student-athlete injuries and return-to-play decisions.
  • Maintain appropriate athletic training room procedures, inventory, equipment, supplies, and medical resources.
  • Ensure athletic training equipment, emergency equipment, and medical supplies are properly maintained, accessible, and ready for use.
  • Assist in educating student-athletes and coaches regarding injury prevention, hydration, heat illness, concussion awareness, recovery, and other health and safety topics.
  • Collaborate with the Athletic Director and coaching staff to promote best practices related to student-athlete health, safety, and wellness.
  • Assist the Athletic Director with athletics-related responsibilities and special projects as requested.
  • Teach classes or fulfill additional school responsibilities as assigned by school administration.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the mission of Archbishop Carroll High School and the Athletics Department.

The Athletic Trainer should demonstrate sound judgment, respond to student-athlete health and safety concerns with urgency, and work collaboratively with coaches, administrators, families, and healthcare professionals.
