Job description

Athletic Trainer – Hourly Rate: $40/hour

POSITION OVERVIEW

Under direction of the Athletic Director, the Athletic Trainer will help maintain the physical well-being of interscholastic athletes through the development and implementation of a comprehensive athletic health care program that focuses on injury prevention and provides for injury evaluation and immediate care and rehabilitation of injured athletes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Conduct initial assessment of an athlete’s injury or illness to provide emergency or continued care and determine referral to physicians.
  • Provide care for athletic injuries.
  • Evaluate athletes’ readiness to play and provide participation clearances when necessary.
  • Apply protective or injury preventive devices such as tape, bandages, or braces.
  • Assess and report progress of recovering athletes to coaches and physicians.
  • Advise athletes on proper use of equipment.
  • Plan and implement comprehensive athletic injury prevention programs.
  • Develop training programs and routines designed to improve athletic performance.
  • Attend all home games, varsity football games, and any other games designated by the Athletic Director/Principal.
  • Model non-discriminatory practices in all activities.
  • Complete end‑of‑year inventory and compile list of needed supplies for the following year.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Certified athletic trainer through NATA‑BOC, licensed by the State of Delaware, and certified in CPR, AED, and First Aid.
  • Thorough knowledge of DIAA regulations and other high school athletic program regulations.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare related reports.
  • Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, staff, and the public.
  • Availability up to 25 hours per week (typically 3:00 pm–8:00 pm, varying with game schedules and immediate needs).
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The employee must regularly talk, express or exchange ideas verbally, convey detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly, possess normal cognitive abilities, frequently sit or remain stationary for long periods, and occasionally exert up to 25 pounds of force, or negligible force frequently or constantly.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

The work is generally performed in a school environment or outdoors, may require moving around the school, gymnasiums, or athletic fields, and may be performed away from school. Noise level is usually moderate to loud.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
  • Criminal background check and tuberculosis test.
  • Provide proper identification (Social Security Card and Driver’s License), documentation of U.S. employment eligibility, completion of I‑9 form, and paperwork for the Delaware Child Protection Registry.
