Job Summary
Responsible for coordinating and delivering athletic training services to student athletes by providing evaluation and treatment of injuries at practices and games, attending all varsity football games and home athletic events, applying protective or injury prevention devices, designing and supervising rehabilitation programs, maintaining accurate records of injuries and treatments, communicating with parents regarding athlete injuries, supervising and instructing student athletic trainers, maintaining medical kits for each in-season athletic team, working with physicians to determine limitations of athletes, working with coaches to establish training and conditioning programs, assisting in the selection of protective athletic equipment, maintaining accurate inventory of training room equipment and supplies and assisting the Athletic Director in preparing training supply requests.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Coordinate and deliver athletic training services to student athletes by providing evaluation and treatment of injuries at practices and games and by providing pre-practice/game taping and preparation.
- Attend all varsity football games and home athletic events. Remain available during all sports practices if possible.
- Apply protective or injury prevention devices, such as taping, bandaging or bracing.
- Design and supervise rehabilitation programs for injured athletes.
- Maintain accurate records of athletic injuries, treatments, health, and accident report forms.
- Supervise the maintenance and operation of training room and training room equipment.
- Communicate respectfully with parents regarding injuries to his/her student athlete, following HIPAA guidelines.
- Supervise and instruct student athletic trainers in care and prevention of injuries.
- Maintain medical kits for each in-season athletic team.
- Work in conjunction with a physician, when necessary, and coaches to determine limitations of an athlete.
- Administer First Aid/emergency care to injured athletes. Establish emergency procedures for training room and athletic facility and coordinate with emergency medical services.
- Work in conjunction with coaches to establish a program of training and conditioning for athletes.
- Work cooperatively with coaches and Athletic Director in the selection of protective athletic equipment and evaluation of the equipment for safety.
- Maintain accurate inventory of training room equipment and supplies and assist the Athletic Director in preparing training supply requests.
Education, Training And Experience
- Bachelor's degree in sports medicine, physical education, Kinesiology or a related field. Courses necessary to obtain National Athletic Trainer Certification within 12 months after hire.
- Hands-on, related internship experience while working toward Bachelor's degree required.
- Oral and written communication, interpersonal and analytical skills.
- Knowledge of athletic injuries, treatments and methodologies.
- Operating knowledge of ultrasound and electric muscle stimulator preferred at hire; required within 3 months after hire.
- Ability to promote and follow Board of Education Coherent Governance Policies, District Policies and building and department procedures; communicate, interact, and work effectively and cooperatively with people from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds and recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
- Criminal background check and District fingerprinting required.
