Job description

SALARY RANGE: $60,000 - $66,000 Annually

Job Summary

Provide on-site athletic training services at games and practices, conduct and document injury evaluations, and offer direct care to student‑athletes. Work with the Athletic Department, coaches, and private physicians to monitor health and facilitate rehabilitation. Assist the Head Athletic Trainer in maintaining the training room and equipment, and train coaches and athletes as needed. Maintain a flexible schedule to cover scheduled events.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide athletic training services at all assigned games and practices, including emergency first‑aid care and injury follow‑up.
  • Maintain accurate injury and treatment documentation in compliance with HIPAA.
  • Create injury and treatment statistical reports to identify trends and guide prevention strategies.
  • Collaborate with coaches, athletic department staff, and student‑athlete private physicians for injury management.
  • Assist in maintaining the training room and inventory of equipment and supplies.
  • Conduct training sessions for student‑athletes and coaches on injury prevention, rehabilitation protocols, and equipment usage.
  • Counsel and advise on injury prevention, rehabilitation, and related matters.
  • Disseminate relevant information to students, parents, physicians, coaches, and staff.
  • Travel with teams for state tournaments, pre‑season tournaments on neighboring islands, or out‑of‑state events as required.
  • Coordinate with school nurses and the athletic department to review student health forms and allergy information.
  • Maintain injury reports for all sports and student‑athletes.
  • Attend athletic department meetings as necessary.
  • Ensure regular and predictable attendance during scheduled hours.
  • Provide in‑person support and service during regular business hours.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Report injuries, hazards, or illnesses immediately to supervisor and Human Resources.
  • Avoid placing others at risk and refrain from willful or reckless interference with safety equipment.

  • Maintain equipment and supplies and ensure their proper upkeep.
  • Stay informed of relevant safety laws and regulations.
  • Report sexual abuse incidents promptly to law enforcement, Human Resources, and child protective services.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Degree in Athletic Training, Physical Education, or a Health‑Related Field.
  • Certification in the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) by the Board of Certification.
  • CPR/First Aid/AED certification and willingness to obtain CPR Instructor Certification if required.
  • State of Hawaii Athletic Trainer Registration.
  • Excellent judgment, critical thinking, and decision‑making under pressure.
  • Ability to develop and modify treatment and rehabilitation programs.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective communication with students, parents, coaches, and staff.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, holidays, and weekends to cover scheduled practices and games.
  • Commitment to maintaining all required certifications.
  • Valid Hawaii driver’s license.
Other Skills

Communicate efficiently with the athletic leadership team, equipment and facilities managers, faculty, student‑athletes, parents, and community members. Organize tasks, meet deadlines, multitask, and model sportsmanship at all times.

Work Schedule

Full‑time, in‑person, 12‑month position covering summer and scheduled school breaks. Regular hours Monday–Friday, 7:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m., with variability based on the athletic calendar and departmental needs. Provides coverage for practices, competitions, tournaments, and other athletic events, which may occur during evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Physical Demands

Campus requires frequent walking, including uphill and stair navigation. Tasks include talking, hearing, sitting, using hands and fingers, typing, standing, walking, lifting and carrying 30–50 pounds, reaching, climbing, balancing, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Requires close vision.

Mental Demands

Problem‑solve, make decisions, interpret data, organize, communicate verbally and in writing, and plan daily.

Equipment Use

Telephone, computer, iPad—frequent. Copier, printers, and other hardware—occasional.

Working Conditions

Indoor—frequent. Outdoor, loud noise, cold, and hot temperatures—frequent.
