Job description

Job Posting Title: Athletic Trainer (Temporary, On-Call)

Kamehameha Schools, Hawaii Campus is looking for an On-Call Athletic Trainer to provide on-site athletic training services at games and practices, conduct and document initial evaluations following injury, and provide direct care to student‑athletes under the guidance of the KS Medical Director.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Provide on‑site athletic training services to student athletes at assigned games and practice sessions.
  • Conduct and document initial evaluations following injury and deliver emergency first‑aid care, working closely with the KS Medical Director and the student‑athlete’s private physician as needed.
  • Under the Medical Director’s guidance, administer medical care to injured student‑athletes.
  • Collaborate with team coaches to monitor student‑athlete health.
  • Supervise the athletic training room facility, maintaining equipment and supplies and conducting training for student‑athletes and coaches as needed.
  • Advise athletes and coaches on injury prevention, rehabilitation, and treatment, and disseminate information on injury prevention techniques and equipment selection/use to students, parents, physicians, coaches and other staff.
  • Travel with teams for state tournaments, pre‑season tournaments on neighboring islands or out of state, and other competitions.
  • Review athletic physical examinations for health information that may affect athletic participation and notify the Medical Director and Risk Management of areas of concern.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Athletic Training, Physical Education or a Health‑related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certification from the Board of Certification (BOC).
  • Emergency Cardiac Certification: American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification.
  • State of Hawaii Athletic Trainer Registration.
  • Excellent judgment, critical thinking skills, and ability to make decisions under pressure.
  • Ability to develop and modify treatment and rehabilitation programs.
  • Good interpersonal skills to relate well with students, parents, coaches and other school staff.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, holidays and weekends regularly to attend scheduled practices and games.
  • Ability to maintain required certifications and travel off‑campus locations on the island and within and outside the state.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
Physical Requirements

Frequently sits, performs desk‑based computer tasks; occasionally stands or walks, writes by hand, and lifts or carries objects up to 30+ pounds. Frequently twists, bends, stoops, squats, kneels, climbs, reaches or works above shoulder height or grasps forcefully.

Working Conditions

This position involves traveling to various locations, including neighboring islands and occasionally out of state, to conduct business. Work is conducted in a healthcare, athletic, and sporting environment and may require work in non‑standard workplaces. Typical work schedule is Monday through Saturday after school hours, with evenings and weekends often required.

Compensation

Hourly compensation ranges from $33.08 to $45.32, commensurate with experience, skills, and education.
