Job summary

Fort Worth ISD is seeking an Athletic Trainer to support student athletes by coordinating conditioning and rehabilitation programs, and working with coaches to prevent and treat injuries.

Responsibilities include covering training events, administering first aid, coordinating the training room, and guiding student trainers. A Texas-licensed athletic trainer with a bachelor's degree is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree required and two years of experience.
  • Licensed athletic trainer by Texas Department of Health.
  • Knowledge of district policies, first aid, kinesiology and physiology.
  • Ability to read UIL/TEA bulletins and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide training coverage for athletic events.
  • Administer first aid and arrange ambulances when needed.
  • Coordinate daily training room activities.
  • Assist physicians with rehabilitation of injured athletes.
  • Apply protective/preventive devices for athletes.
  • Maintain records, inventory and budgets.
  • Counsel athletes and coaches on health matters.
  • Supervise equipment fittings.
  • Conduct CPR and AED training for coaches.
  • Supervise and instruct student athletic trainers.
  • Advise coaches on protective equipment purchases.

Duty Days: 202

Salary Range: $74,829 - 90,155

Some positions may be grant-funded position and are contingent on availability of funds.

Position Purpose

Work on the prevention, assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries that occur during sport or physical activities. Work with coaches in developing and implementing a program of conditioning for athletes.

Essential Functions
  • Provide training coverage for all athletic events.
  • Administer first aid to injured athletes and solicit ambulances when required.
  • Coordinate daily activities of the training room.
  • Work under the supervision of the physician to coordinate the rehabilitation of the injured athlete.
  • Apply protective and preventive devices for athletes.
  • Maintain records, inventory, and budget allocations.
  • Counsel and advise athletes and coaches on health matters.
  • Supervise fittings of protective equipment.
  • Conduct First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training for coaches.
  • Supervise and instruct student athletic trainers.
  • Assist and advise coaches on the purchase of protective athletic equipment.
  • Perform other job related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Two years of experience.
  • Licensed as an Athletic Trainer by Texas Department of Health.
  • Working knowledge of:
    • the Districts policies, procedures, and regulations.
    • basic principles of athletic, training, kinesiology, physiology, nutrition, diet and first aid.
    • general principles of supervision and training.
    • community emergency medical resources.
    • multicultural diversity issues in the work place.
    • interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.
  • Ability to:
    • understand and carry out technical and other directions issued by physicians.
    • read and interpret UIL and TEA bulletins and regulations.
    • assume responsibility and exercise sound judgment.
    • communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, including principles of English and grammar usage.
    • facilitate and conduct group meetings.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk; sit; use hands for fine manipulation, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms using a keyboard and video display terminal. The employee is occasionally required to stand and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and climb stairs. The employee must maintain emotional control under stress, and occasionally work prolonged and/or irregular hours. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 35 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. The work environment is a standard office setting including standard office equipment (fax, copier, phone, computer, 10-key, etc.). The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
