Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Provide athletic training services for assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries for student athletes in 23 intercollegiate sports.
  • Communicate with interdisciplinary medical professionals in a team environment.
  • Review medical clearance of rosters annually and cover specific teams as directed by the Head Athletic Trainer.
  • Travel with teams as required.
  • Demonstrate professional credentials and maintain licensure as required.

Western Connecticut State University – Intercollegiate Athletics – Athletic Trainer (Academic Year 2026‑2027)

WestConn’s Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is accepting applications for a full‑time, 10‑month Athletic Trainer. The start date will be negotiable.

Position Summary

Provide athletic training services for the assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries for student athletes in 23 intercollegiate sports programs and visiting team members who may need immediate care. Perform effective, confidential communication with interdisciplinary medical professionals in a team environment, review medical clearance of assigned rosters annually, and cover specific teams as directed by the Head Athletic Trainer. Travel is required.

Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in athletic training or related field.
  • Current certifications by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association – Board of Certification (NATABOC) and Emergency Cardiac Care (U.S. Basic Life Support or American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid).
  • Connecticut State licensure (to be obtained and maintained).
  • Experience working directly with collision sports (preferred).
  • Experience with SportsWare technology (preferred).
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and professionally (written, interpersonal, public speaking).
  • Availability to work regular days, mornings, evenings, weekends, and/or holidays as required.
  • Budget management skills for sports medicine management (preferred).
  • Competent with credentials and/or experience substantially comparable to the above.
Salary & Benefits

The hiring salary for Athletic Trainer II is $79,169; for Athletic Trainer I is $69,953. WestConn offers a comprehensive benefits package. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a full‑time basis and are not eligible for work‑visa sponsorship.
