Job summary

Fairview Health Services in Minnesota is seeking an Athletic Trainer to join a multi-disciplinary orthopedic clinic. You will deliver direct patient care, including triage, evaluation, and discharge planning in collaboration with a physician, with responsibilities ranging from casting to self-care instruction.

You will contribute to efficient workflows, coordinate referrals, and educate patients and families, ensuring high-quality care in a fast-paced setting.

Qualifications

• Board of Certification Certified Athletic Trainer upon hire.
• Athletic Trainer Certification with the MN Board of Medical Practice upon hire.
• Basic Life Support certification upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Perform rooming procedures, including vitals and medical history.
• Prepare patients for injections or other interventions; coordinate referrals.
• Conduct concussion testing and provide education with the provider.
• Educate patients and families on self-care and home exercise programs.
• Apply casting and bracing devices as directed.
• Understand and adapt to staff roles to ensure seamless care.
• Help manage daily provider schedules and improve workflow.

Job Overview

An athletic trainer working as a member of a multi-disciplinary team in a specialized orthopedic and musculoskeletal clinic, this individual is responsible for safe and effective direct delivery of patient care including triage and coordination of care ranging from patient evaluation, care delivery, assessment, and discharge planning in collaboration with a physician. Care delivery responsibilities include and are not limited to casting, bracing, and instruction in self-care and home exercise programs

Responsibilities

• Perform rooming procedures, including taking vitals, and detailed medical history.
• Prepare patients and supplies for injection or other medical interventions such as x-ray and musculoskeletal ultrasound. Assist in facilitating appropriate referral to medical personnel including X-ray, lab, athletic training, physical therapy, hand therapy, chiropractic, primary care, and specialist physician services.
• Perform patient assessment including concussion baseline testing and post injury assessment. Provide concussion education to patients and family in partnership with provider.
• Educate patient and/or family member in self-care, including home exercise program instruction, as directed by provider. Communicate proper follow-up care to patients, family, and any other medical support personnel in clinic, on the phone and in written form.
• Apply appropriate casting and bracing devices.
• Understand all staff members’ responsibilities so they have the ability to move from one role to another in a seamless manner.
• Manages provider schedules daily by working with scheduling staff to ensure patients timely access and creates access for acute injuries. Identify opportunities to improve workflows by being engaged in change improvement and focused on the work environment and patient experience.

Required Qualifications

• Board of Certification Certified Athletic Trainer upon hire Upon Hire
• Athletic Trainer Cert with the MN Board of Medical Practice Upon Hire
• Basic Life Support (American Heart Assoc or Red Cross) Upon Hire

Preferred Qualifications

• 3 years experience as an athletic trainer or combination of athletic training and other healthcare work such as CMA, Nursing Assistant, PT, PTA, LPN
• Membership of the National Athletic Training Association
