Job summary

The City of Virginia Beach is seeking a Recreation Specialist I to support Sports Management across parks and facilities. You will coordinate programs, assist with field maintenance, and supervise part-time staff while ensuring excellent customer service to renters and the public.

Ideal candidates hold a bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience, with strong knowledge of leagues rules and proficiency in Microsoft Office and Active Net.

Qualifications

• Requires a Bachelor’s degree in recreation management, therapeutic recreation, exercise science, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience mentoring/coaching part-time staff or volunteers.
• Experience in facility maintenance and operations for athletic programs/complexes.
• Knowledge of youth and adult athletic leagues rules and regulations.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Active Net.

Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate, implement and evaluate programs, operations, and facilities for Sports Management.
• Assist with planning and execution of outdoor athletic field and facility maintenance.
• Coordinate staffing and event setup/breakdown for rentals and recreation events.
• Serve as liaison for renters; manage contracts, payments, and scheduling via software.
• Supervise part-time staff, including hiring, training, and discipline.
• Oversee revenue collection from registrations, rentals, and lighting fees.
