Job summary

Granbury Maintenance Department in Granbury, Texas seeks an Athletic Groundskeeper to maintain safe and attractive district grounds including athletic fields.

Responsibilities include mowing, watering, pruning, planting, chalking fields, sprinkler work, and operating tractors, mowers and power tools; heavy lifting and outdoor work are routine.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED required.
Valid Texas driver’s license required.
Ability to read and understand written instructions.
Ability to communicate verbally.
Experience with tractors and landscaping equipment is part of daily tasks.

Responsibilities

Mow and detail all district grounds, including athletic fields.
Care for trees, shrubs and flowers with watering, pruning, fertilizing and mulching.
Plant shrubs and vegetation and assist with athletic field prep for games.
Water grounds and apply fertilizer; collect and dispose of leaves and debris.
Assist with inspection, repair and installation of sprinkler systems.
Operate tools and equipment safely and follow safety procedures.
Transport workers and equipment to sites; attend trainings.
Perform other duties as assigned by Head Groundskeeper or Maintenance Director.

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Maintain safe and attractive grounds and landscaping for the district.

QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma or GED
Valid Texas driver’s license

Special Knowledge/Skills

Ability to read and understand written instructions
Ability to communicate (verbally)
Ability to operate tractor and landscaping equipment
Ability to operate riding or power mower, power tools, and hand tools

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

1. Grounds and Landscaping

1.1Mow and detail all district grounds, including athletic fields.
1.2Care for trees, shrubs, and flowers by watering, pruning, fertilizing, mulching, caring for beds, and controlling weeds.
1.3Plant shrubs and vegetation.
1.4Assist with the preparation of athletic fields for games, including chalking fields.
1.5Water grounds and apply fertilizer.
1.6Collect and dispose of leaves, dirt, rubbish, and refuse from district facilities.
1.7Assist with the inspection, repair, and installation of sprinkler systems.

2. Safety

2.1Operate tools and equipment according to prescribed safety procedures.
2.2Follow established safety proceduresand techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.
2.3Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.
2.4Help keep vehicle, equipment, and tools in safe operating condition.
2.5Inspect and adjust tools and equipment for safety and efficiency and perform preventive maintenance as needed.

3. Other

3.1Transport workers and equipment to work sites throughout the district.
3.2Attend school/training sessions as required.
3.3Perform other duties as assigned by Head Groundskeeper or Maintenance Director.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for supervising (2) Athletic Grounds Employees.

EQUIPMENT USED

Heavy equipment, including backhoe, trencher, and grader blade; tractor and mower; riding and power mower; gas-powered weed trimmer; blower, edger, sprayer, striping machine; garden and hand tools; posthole auger, aerator. Light truck or van.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors

Continual walking, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, and heavy lifting and carrying. Work outside and around moving objects or vehicles. Exposure to extreme temperatures, chemicals (herbicides and fertilizer), and loud noises. Frequent districtwide travel.
