Job summary

Anne Arundel County Public Schools (AACPS) is seeking a Groundsperson to perform manual and semi-skilled grounds maintenance work and assist the Lead Groundsperson in repair and upkeep of school grounds, athletic facilities, and equipment to ensure a safe environment for students and staff. The role requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and preferred experience in construction or landscape work.

CDL Class A is preferred; driving is required for Board business.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalency Certificate required.
• One (1) year construction, landscape or related experience preferred.
• Ability to be trained and retain knowledge of landscaping and care of plants, transplanting, pruning and repairs to walkways, driveways, and storms.
• Strong customer service skills in a team environment.
• Ability to meet deadlines and communicate with diverse populations.

Responsibilities

• Clears grounds and fence lines by felling trees and removing debris and poisonous plants.
• Assists in dragging, spreading, preparing and leveling playing surfaces and fertilizing, aerating, seeding, of athletic fields.
• Performs maintenance and repairs on artificial turf.
• Prepares athletic grounds for games, meets and athletic contests.
• Assists in the repair and maintenance of concrete and asphalt walkways and roadways.
• Erects, repairs, and maintains chain link fences.
• Assists in the inspection, maintenance, and repair of playground equipment.
• Operates mowers, tractors, grounds care equipment/operates truck with trailer.
• Participates in snow removal.
• Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.
