Role Description

The Athletic Fields Superintendent is a full-time, on-site role based in Clinton, MS, responsible for overseeing the maintenance and operations of the city’s athletic fields and related facilities. This position plans, schedules, and supervises daily turf care, field preparation, irrigation, and repairs to ensure safe, high-quality playing surfaces for community sports and events. The superintendent coordinates work crews, manages equipment and materials, and collaborates with parks, recreation, and sports program staff to support game and practice schedules. The role includes monitoring field conditions, implementing preventative maintenance, ensuring compliance with safety standards, and responding to issues such as weather-related damage or urgent repairs. The superintendent also assists with budgeting for field operations, tracks maintenance records, and contributes to long-term planning for facility improvements.

Qualifications

• Experience in athletic field, turf, or grounds maintenance, including mowing, fertilization, irrigation, and field preparation.
• Knowledge of facility operations and safety practices for public recreation areas and sports venues.
• Ability to supervise staff or crews, delegate tasks, and coordinate daily work schedules effectively.
• Skill in using and maintaining landscaping and turf equipment, such as mowers, tractors, and irrigation systems.
• Strong organizational and time-management abilities to handle multiple projects and seasonal demands.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills for working with city departments, vendors, and community partners.
• Capacity to perform physical tasks outdoors in varying weather conditions and to follow safety protocols.
• High school diploma or equivalent; additional training or certifications in turf management, horticulture, or related fields are a plus.
• Previous experience in municipal parks, recreation, or athletic facility management is preferred.
• Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record, as required by city policy.
