Maryland Turfgrass Council is seeking an Athletic Field Technician to perform skilled turf maintenance, training staff, and prep playing surfaces for high-level competition. The role emphasizes safe operation of field equipment and adherence to procedures to keep fields in top condition.
The position requires lifting up to 50 pounds, a valid driver’s license, and a background in turf management or horticulture.
Perform skilled and semi-skilled labor in the various aspects of Athletic Field Maintenance. Directly participate in the maintenance and preparation of playing surfaces, train subordinate staff members in techniques to maintain athletic fields. Follow operational procedures to optimally maintain the playing surface of the field. Experience, special skills, knowledge, and abilities to maintain athletic fields at the highest competitive levels are required.
Receives general supervision from the Operations Manager. Exercises supervision over technicians.
Ability to lift and carry 50-pound bags of materials. Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Experience: Three years of experience and/or college degree in turf management, horticulture, parks and recreation, or a related field. Training: Equivalent to a high school diploma with additional specialized training or educational training in grounds maintenance, horticulture or a related field. Licenses and Certificates: Possession of valid driver’s license. Ability to obtain state Pest Control Applicator and Professional Fertilizer Applicator certificates.
Field environment; exposure to dust and dirt, hazards associated with operating a motor vehicle, various chemicals including fertilizers and pesticides, contagious conditions including poison oak and inclement weather conditions. Physical Conditions: Essential and other important duties and responsibilities may require maintaining physical conditions necessary for standing or walking for prolonged periods of time; climbing, kneeling and stooping; moderate to heavy lifting; the use of arms and legs.
Yearly Salary: $60,000.00 plus health insurance, vacation, 401k matching, uniforms, holidays, bonus
