Job summary

Randall’s Island Park Alliance is seeking an Athletic Field Specialist to maintain 60+ athletic fields across Randall’s Island Park. The role focuses on natural grass soccer and lacrosse fields, with involvement in ballfields and Kentucky bluegrass pitches at Icahn Stadium.

You will work with the Sports Field crew to implement turf plans and ensure high-quality playing surfaces. The position requires a strong background in turf maintenance, the ability to operate a range of equipment, and

Qualifications

• Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in professional turf or athletic field maintenance, such as golf course, stadiums, ball fields, soccer fields.
• Advanced knowledge of soccer field projects including sod installation/removal, irrigation, aeration, seeding, and drainage.
• Knowledge of and ability to safely use hand tools such as rakes, tampers, shovels, soil moisture meters and related equipment.
• Ability to operate equipment essential to maintaining safe playing surfaces, including weed whackers, mowers and edgers.
• Fluency in Spanish is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Implement and build upon the turf plan for athletic fields under supervision.
• Perform specialized maintenance on natural grass soccer and lacrosse fields.
• Mow, seed, fertilize, water, level, lay sod, remove debris and roll fields with the team.
• Line athletic playing fields and observe field conditions to advise the Director and Manager.
• Assist with sod projects and ensure equipment is maintained and safe to operate.
