Job Summary
Administers all aspects of sports-specific activities within the District and individual school's Athletic Department policies, as well as within the guidelines of the Florida High School Athletics Association and the National Federation of High Schools.
Essential Functions
- Rule Enforcement and Documentation: Announce and enforce rules regarding conditioning and training, ensuring all forms such as EL2, EL3, Insurance Verification, Sportsmanship contract, and birth certificates are on file for all team members. (10%)
- Professional Development: Attend mandatory FHSAA rules clinics, Gateway Conference meetings, and coaching clinics for ongoing professional growth. (10%)
- Physical Examinations and Equipment: Collaborate with the athletic director to establish physical examinations, verifying completion of the DCPS Athletic Health Examination Form before practice or equipment issuance. (10%)
- Fundraising: Conduct and supervise at least one fundraising activity for the sport. (10%)
- Supervision: Ensure team supervision at all times, including locker rooms and post-practice/contest pickup. (10%)
- Compliance: Know and enforce rules related to Title IX, FHSAA, and the Duval County School Board. (10%)
- Academic Monitoring: Monitor weekly academic progress of each team member. (10%)
- Organization: Organize practice and game responsibilities clearly, assigning specific duties to coaching staff. (10%)
- Injury Reporting: Report injuries to the athletic trainer or sports medicine program, complete accident reports, and secure necessary medical and parental approvals for return to play after serious injuries. (10%)
- Program Improvement: Support and actively participate in improving the athletic and educational programs. (10%)
- Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned. (Remaining percentage)
Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent
Experience: Preferred previous coaching experience or in the coaching field
Certifications & Licenses: Completion of required coaching courses including First Aid, CPR, Sudden Cardiac Arrest, Concussion in Sports (NFHS), AED training, and Florida Department of Education Athletic Coaching Certificate
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
- Knowledge of the sport and strategies
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations
- Strong leadership and creative problem-solving skills
