Job Summary
Administers all aspects of sports-specific activity within the District and individual school's Athletic Department policy, as well as within the guidelines of the Florida High School Athletics Association and the National Federation High Schools.
Essential Functions
- Announce and enforce rules pertaining to conditioning of players and the training rules affecting the health and safety of the players. Ensure that EL2, EL3, Insurance Verification, Sportsmanship contract, birth certificate, and other forms are on file for all team members. (10%)
- Attend mandatory FHSAA rules clinics and Gateway Conference meetings. Continue professional development by attending coaching clinics. (10%)
- Coordinate with the athletic director to establish physical examinations and verify completion of the DCPS Athletic Health Examination Form before issuing equipment or allowing practice or conditioning. (10%)
- Conduct and supervise at least one fundraising activity for the sport. (10%)
- Ensure team supervision at all times, including locker room supervision and athlete pickup after practices and contests. (10%)
- Know and enforce rules and regulations required by Title IX, FHSAA, and the Duval County School Board. (10%)
- Monitor academic progress of team members on a weekly basis. (10%)
- Organize practice and game responsibilities with clear duties assigned to coaching staff. (10%)
- Report injuries to the athletic trainer or Sports Medicine Program and complete necessary forms. Obtain medical and parental approval for return to play after serious injuries. (10%)
- Support and actively participate in improving the athletic and educational programs of the school. (10%)
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Experience: Previous coaching experience preferred
- Certifications & Licenses: Completion of coaching courses including First Aid, CPR, Sudden Cardiac Arrest, Concussion in Sports (NFHS courses), AED training, Florida Department of Education Certificate (Athletic Coaching)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of the sport and strategies
- Strong communication skills (oral, written, interpersonal)
- Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software
- Leadership and problem-solving skills
- Time management and organizational skills
- Ability to conduct staff meetings, manage tryouts, practices, and contests
