Position Title: Athletic Attendant I

Position Summary
The Athletic Attendant I is responsible for providing an enjoyable and safe sports experience to guests and members. Duties include assisting in sports programs of all ages such as volleyball, soccer, basketball, and more, and maintaining the Gymnasium, Gym Lanai area, and Recreation Field facilities. The attendant will represent The Salvation Army and the Kroc Center Hawaii community with a deep commitment to the organization’s mission.
Required Education and Experience
- Experience in playing and/or coaching sports.
- Previous experience working with youth helpful.
- Previous customer service work experience helpful.
- Maintain a professional attitude and approach to problem solving.
- Communicate effectively with staff, members, clients, and customers.
- Attend and complete at least 2 hours of Child Safety training approved by The Salvation Army.
- Current CPR/First Aid and AED certificate. Recertification may be acquired after employment.
- Physical ability to lead and interact in group activities and perform related physical skills.
- Work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays.
- Basic computer skills and experience with the Kiosk Point of Sales (P.O.S.) systems helpful.
- Work independently with minimal supervision.
- Lift and carry at least 40 pounds.
Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be accepted.
Essential Functions
- Provide initial customer service contact for staff, members, clients, and customers entering the Gymnasium, Gym Lanai area, or Recreation Field facilities; provide direction and answer questions regarding athletic programs as needed.
- Assist in organizing activities, clinics, leagues, and athletic programs for all ages.
- Maintain good customer service to the community; ensure all staff, members, clients, and customers receive prompt and courteous service.
- Maintain the orderliness and cleanliness of the Gymnasium, Gym Lanai area, Equipment room, and Recreation Field facilities.
- Clean and maintain sports equipment.
- Sweep gym floors, judo mats, and other surfaces.
- Remove trash and debris.
- Assist customers, clients, and members per established procedures, verify membership status, check in and out gym equipment, and secure the Kiosk P.O.S. area at the close of shift.
- Adhere to Kroc Center Hawaii operations and all policy procedures adopted by Administration.
- Work with volunteers and co-workers professionally and interface with peers, supervisors, and individuals of diverse socio-economic backgrounds.
- Monitor all recreational activity in any athletic venue, including the Gymnasium, Gym Lanai area, and Recreation Field facilities.
- Assist with gymnasium, gym lanai area, and/or recreation field preparations and clean up.
- Assist as needed in emergency or accident situations and respond swiftly.
- Maintain a safe working environment; report all harmful problems to the proper supervisor, including the Athletic Director.
- Maintain all health and safety regulations as defined by the Health Department and The Salvation Army.
- Observe all safety rules and regulations by enforcing safety measures for all facilities.
- Report any suspicion of child abuse to the appropriate supervisor, including the Athletic Director and Child Protective Services.
- Attend all staff meetings and trainings.
- Maintain quality service by following organization standards.
- Demonstrate a positive attitude and professional behavior toward clients and colleagues.
- Provide the management with appropriate records concerning participation, member information, etc.
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Respond to and report all accidents and incidents to the supervisor at the time of occurrence and to the Athletic Director.
- Document maintenance needs and submit to the Athletic Director.
- Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.
- Maintain the Code of Ethics policy established for the Kroc Center Hawaii.
- Maintain regular and punctual work attendance; provide a minimum of 20 hours of availability per week.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands
The position requires sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching, crouching, crawling, standing, walking, manual dexterity, eye‑hand coordination, and use of vision. The attendant must push, pull, lift, and carry 30–40 pounds and occasionally more than 40 pounds. Weekends and evenings may be required.
Communication Demands
The position requires talking to co‑workers, clients, vendors, and on the telephone; responding to written or verbal requests; training and giving instructions; receiving instructions; writing and composing written language; reading; visiting or working at other sites; and communicating via the latest technologies. The attendant must interact with co‑workers and the public in a positive, professional manner in conformity with The Salvation Army Mission Statement and work with people of diverse backgrounds and circumstances.
Work Environment
The job may involve exposure to moving mechanical parts and occasional loud noise. Workdays may be extended, often including weekends and holidays. Most work occurs both indoors and outdoors at Kroc Center Hawaii.
Equipment Needs
Gymnasium equipment, cleaning equipment, lifts, sports equipment, and tip and roll bleachers.
Certificates & Licenses
Current CPR and AED certificates may be acquired after employment. A valid driver’s license and insured transportation are required. Employees must participate in The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program annually.
Clearances
A criminal history background check is required. Convictions are considered on a case‑by‑case basis.
