Job summary

Great Hearts Academies is seeking a Co-Curricular Lead Teacher or Program Assistant for our Baton Rouge after-school program. This part-time, seasonal role spans roughly 15–20 hours per week, Monday–Friday from dismissal until 6:00 p.m. on regular days.

You’ll supervise activities, support students, and deliver lessons from the classical curriculum. The ideal candidate enjoys working with children, demonstrates strong communication, and upholds the school’s core virtues in daily practice.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children and children’s programming preferred.
  • Some college preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be at least 17 years of age.
  • First aid/CPR certification preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise students in a classroom setting.
  • Facilitate homework, recess, and other activities.
  • Present lessons from provided classical curriculum.
  • Utilize appropriate child guidance and classroom management strategies.
  • Model and instill Great Hearts 9 Core Virtues (responsibility, perseverance, integrity, honesty, courage, citizenship, humility, friendship, wisdom).
  • Follow standard operating procedures to ensure high quality programs.
  • Follow protocols for responding to and documenting student behavior and significant events.
  • Escalate incident reports and significant events to supervisor.
  • Substitute at another campus when needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position SummaryCo-Curricular Lead Teachers and Program Assistants facilitate program activities and supervise students in the after-school program. This is a wonderful opportunity for aspiring educators or for those who love working with children. This is a part-time, seasonal, non-exempt, non-benefited position. After-school programs are open Monday-Friday from school dismissal until 6:00 p.m. (earlier start on early release days). Approximately 15-20 hours per week.Duties & ResponsibilitiesSupervise students in a classroom setting.Facilitate homework, recess, and other activities.Present lessons from provided classical curriculum.Utilize appropriate child guidance and classroom management strategies.Model and instill Great Hearts 9 Core Virtues (responsibility, perseverance, integrity, honesty, courage, citizenship, humility, friendship, wisdom).Follow standard operating procedures to ensure high quality programs.Follow protocols for responding to and documenting student behavior and significant events.Escalate incident reports and significant events to supervisor.Substitute at another campus when needed.Other duties as assigned.Qualifications, Competencies & StrengthsExperience working with children and children’s programming preferred. Some college preferred. The successful candidate will be a principled, professional leader with an independent work ethic and a heart of service to others. They must demonstrate sound business judgment and wisdom in dealing with people. Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be at least 17 years of age. First aid/CPR certification preferred but not required.Additional RequirementsSuccessful completion of fingerprinting and background check with Louisiana State Police is required.Physical functions: Requires but is not limited to standing, sitting, repetitious hand and body movements, bending, squatting, and reaching.
