Job summary

Great Hearts Academies seeks Co-Curricular Lead Teachers and Program Assistants to supervise students and facilitate activities in our after-school program in Baton Rouge. This part-time, seasonal role runs Monday through Friday from dismissal until 6:00 p.m., about 15–20 hours per week, with occasional campus substitutions.

Ideal candidates will have experience with children, strong communication skills, and a principled leadership approach.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children and children's programming preferred.
• Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Must be at least 17 years of age.
• First aid/CPR certification preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Supervise students in a classroom setting.
• Facilitate homework, recess, and other activities.
• Present lessons from provided classical curriculum.
• Utilize appropriate child guidance and classroom management strategies.
• Model and instill Great Hearts 9 Core Virtues (responsibility, perseverance, integrity, honesty, courage, citizenship, humility, friendship, wisdom).
• Follow standard operating procedures to ensure high quality programs.
• Follow protocols for responding to and documenting student behavior and significant events.
• Escalate incident reports and significant events to supervisor.
• Substitute at another campus when needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Position Summary

Co-Curricular Lead Teachers and Program Assistants facilitate program activities and supervise students in the after-school program. This is a wonderful opportunity for aspiring educators or for those who love working with children. This is a part-time, seasonal, non-exempt, non-benefited position. After-school programs are open Monday-Friday from school dismissal until 6:00 p.m. (earlier start on early release days). Approximately 15-20 hours per week.

They must demonstrate sound business judgment and wisdom in dealing with people. Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be at least 17 years of age. First aid/CPR certification preferred but not required.

Additional Requirements

Successful completion of fingerprinting and background check with Louisiana State Police is required.

Physical functions: Requires but is not limited to standing, sitting, repetitious hand and body movements, bending, squatting, and reaching. May be required to move or position equipment up to 15 pounds approximately.

Travel required: May need to travel locally to academies within the Baton Rouge area.

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal history background check and fingerprint clearance in accordance with state requirements.

Travel required: May need to travel locally for training and professional development opportunities.
