Job summary

PBMares LLP in Virginia is seeking a Staff Accountant to join our Assurance team, an entry‑level role for building experience in public accounting, audit, and financial reporting. You will prepare workpapers, perform audit procedures, assist with financial statements, and research accounting issues.

With experience, you’ll take on more complex assignments and greater responsibility. This exempt position offers a hybrid schedule, ongoing professional development, and a comprehensive benefits

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with an accounting concentration or equivalent.
• Eligible to sit for the CPA exam.
• 1 or more years of related public accounting experience.
• Basic knowledge of accounting and auditing principles.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently as experience progresses.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

• Prepare accurate workpapers for accounting and audit engagements.
• Perform audit procedures for assigned accounts and transactions.
• Assist with the preparation of financial statements and related notes.
• Research accounting and auditing issues as assigned.
• Communicate engagement status, questions, and issues to the In-Charge.
• Meet established quality, billable-hour, and realization expectations.
• Complete assigned professional development and CPE training.
• Develop increasingly advanced Excel and technical accounting skills.
• Follow firm engagement methodologies and documentation standards.
