Smith + Howard, a Southeast-based accounting and advisory firm, seeks an Assurance Senior for its Captive Insurance practice. You will lead audit engagements for captive entities, collaborating with clients and teams to deliver precise financial statements under GAAP and SAP.

You will build trusted relationships with CFOs and risk managers, supervise staff, and contribute to business development while growing technical expertise in a niche insurance space.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of public accounting audit experience.
• Active CPA license or CPA exam in progress.
• Solid technical foundation in GAAP; statutory accounting experience is a plus.
• Demonstrated ability to lead engagements and manage client relationships.
• Strong communication skills—written, verbal, and in the room.

Responsibilities

Summary

As an Assurance Senior in our Captive Insurance practice, you'll lead audit engagements for captive insurance entities across a range of structures - single-parent captives, group captives, and association captives. You'll work directly with sophisticated clients who use captives as a strategic risk financing tool, and you'll be part of a practice area experiencing real national momentum.

Essential Functions

• Leading audit fieldwork and managing day-to-day engagement logistics for captive insurance clients
• Preparing and reviewing financial statements in accordance with GAAP and statutory accounting principles (SAP)
• Building working relationships with clients—including CFOs, risk managers, and captive managers—who value a team that understands their business
• Supervising and developing staff and associates on your engagements
• Collaborating with practice leadership to deliver high-quality work product on time and within budget
• Supporting business development through exceptional client service and your growing industry knowledge

Position Requirements

• 3–5 years of public accounting audit experience
• Active CPA license or CPA exam in progress
