Responsibilities*

The Assistant Research Scientist will lead the development and day-to-day operations of the Section's thoracic tumor biobank and will contribute as a team scientist to the laboratory?s federally funded translational cancer research program. Biobank responsibilities include specimen accrual, processing, de-identification, and clinicopathologic annotation under the Section's IRB umbrella protocol; development of a REDCap-linked platform to support internal and multi-institutional research use; and generation of patient-derived model systems to support translational and co-clinical drug testing studies. The Assistant Research Scientist will also be expected to participate in the preparation of manuscripts, presentation of work at national and international meetings, and grant submissions, and to mentor students, residents, and research staff. She/he should therefore have a strong track record of productivity and the level of motivation required to develop an independent biomedical research program.

Record of peer-reviewed publications in relevant scientific journals. Experience with human biospecimen handling under IRB-approved protocols, tissue processing (cryopreservation and FFPE), tissue microarray construction, patient-derived organoid or xenograft model systems, and REDCap or comparable clinical data capture platforms would be highly desirable.
