Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center in Charlotte, NC, is seeking an experienced Assistant Nurse Manager for Labor & Delivery to lead a 20-bed L&D unit and oversee a 16-bed Special Maternity unit. You will partner with the Nurse Manager to ensure top-tier obstetric care for antepartum, intrapartum, and high-risk patients.

You will mentor a skilled team, promote professional development, and lead continuous improvement initiatives to optimize safety, quality, and patient experiences.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; BSN and graduate degree preferred.
• Minimum two years of clinical RN experience; nursing leadership preferred.
• Current RN licensure in the appropriate state; facility-specific training within 3 months of hire.
• Successful completion of leadership education and training; competency testing required.

Responsibilities

• Lead daily operations of a high-volume Labor & Delivery unit, partnering with the Nurse Manager.
• Provide leadership and clinical support for antepartum, intrapartum, and high-risk obstetric patients.
• Mentor, coach, and develop nursing staff to grow professionally while maintaining clinical standards.
• Collaborate with physicians, APPs, educators, and interdisciplinary partners to deliver safe, patient-centered care.
• Monitor quality, safety, patient experience, and operational metrics; drive continuous improvement.
• Support staffing, recruitment, onboarding, retention, and engagement to sustain a high-performing team.
• Participate in on-call leadership rotation approximately every six weeks.

What You'll Do

As the Assistant Nurse Manager for Labor & Delivery, you'll partner with the Nurse Manager to provide clinical, operational, and professional leadership for a dynamic team caring for patients across the continuum of obstetric care. You'll serve as a visible leader, mentor, and resource while fostering a culture centered on safety, accountability, teamwork, and remarkable patient experiences.

Key responsibilities include:

• Supporting daily operations of a high-volume Labor & Delivery unit that averages 365 to 450 births each month.
• Providing leadership and clinical support for nurses caring for antepartum, intrapartum, and high-risk obstetric patients.
• Leveraging strong Labor & Delivery clinical expertise to support complex patient populations and rapidly changing patient conditions.
• Serving as a trusted mentor, coach, and resource to nursing staff, helping team members grow professionally while maintaining high standards of clinical practice.
• Fostering a positive and engaged team culture by promoting accountability, collaboration, recognition, and open communication.
• Supporting recruitment, onboarding, retention, and engagement efforts to build and sustain a high-performing team.
• Collaborating with physicians, advanced practice providers, educators, and interdisciplinary partners to deliver safe, high-quality, patient-centered care.
• Monitoring quality, safety, patient experience, and operational metrics while leading and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
• Supporting staffing and resource management in a fast-paced environment where nurses commonly manage a two-patient assignment model.
• Participating in an on-call leadership rotation, approximately one weekend every six weeks across Women's Services. When scheduled on a holiday weekend, leaders are expected to take call coverage, while weekday holiday coverage is compensated with time off.

What We're Looking For

• Education:
  • 4 Year / Bachelors Degree, required.
  • BSN, preferred.
  • Graduate Degree, preferred
• Experience:
  • Minimum of two years of clinical RN experience, preferred.
  • Prior demonstrated nursing leadership, preferred.
• Licensure/Certification:
  • Current RN licensure in appropriate state, required.
  • NC state approved curricula for restrictive interventions (facility specific) within 3 months of hire for Emergency Departments and Behavioral Health units, required.
  • Unit/Dept Specific Required Certifications.
• Additional Skills (required):
  • Successful completion of generic and department-specific skills validation and competency testing. Ability to successfully complete Leader Education & Training.
