Job summary

Jobot is seeking an experienced Estimator in Boston, MA to join its growing preconstruction team. You will prepare accurate cost estimates, collaborate with project managers, engineers, and architects, and continuously refine estimates with value engineering and market insights.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in construction estimating or a similar role.
• Proven experience in project bidding, budgeting, value engineering, MTO, negotiation, and cost analysis.
• Strong mathematical and IT abilities with a keen eye for detail.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation of accurate cost estimates for construction projects to aid in bidding and budgeting processes.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and architects to understand project requirements and timelines.
• Perform detailed analysis of designs and specifications to determine project costs.
• Leverage Material Take Off (MTO) to calculate material quantities.
• Conduct cost analysis and value engineering to identify savings and efficiencies.
• Participate in negotiations with contractors and suppliers for best prices and terms.
• Monitor industry trends to ensure competitive pricing on supplies and services.
• Prepare and present detailed reports and project estimates to stakeholders.
• Maintain a comprehensive database of updated project costs and market information.
• Ensure compliance with company standards in all estimating activities.

This Role Is NOT a Fit If...

• Your estimating experience is exclusively on the subcontractor/trade side
• Your background is primarily in residential construction
• You have limited experience estimating complete commercial GC projects
• Your experience has been primarily focused on purchasing or procurement rather than full-cycle estimating

Responsibilities

1. Assist in the preparation of accurate cost estimates for construction projects to aid in bidding and budgeting processes.
2. Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and architects to understand project requirements and timelines.
3. Perform detailed analysis of project designs and specifications to determine overall project costs.
4. Leverage expertise in Material Take Off (MTO) to accurately calculate the quantity of materials needed for each project.
5. Conduct regular cost analysis and value engineering exercises to identify potential cost-saving opportunities and efficiencies.
6. Participate in the negotiation process with contractors and suppliers to secure the best prices and terms.
7. Continually monitor industry trends and prices to ensure the company is getting the best prices on supplies and services.
8. Prepare and present detailed reports and project estimates to stakeholders, including potential clients, project managers, and senior leadership.
9. Maintain a comprehensive database of updated project costs and relevant market information.
10. Ensure compliance with company standards and procedures in all estimating activities.

Qualifications

1. A minimum of 5+ years of experience in construction estimating or a similar role.
2. Proven experience in project bidding, budgeting, value engineering, Material Take Off (MTO), negotiation, and cost analysis.
3. Strong mathematical and IT abilities with a keen eye for detail.
4. Exceptional communication and negotiation skills.
5. Sound knowledge of construction processes, materials, and legal regulations.
6. Proficiency in industry-specific software and MS Office Suite.
7. Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
8. Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to make well-judged decisions.
9. Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
10. Professional certification in construction estimating or a related field is a plus.
