Job description

Join to apply for the Asst Director of Nursing Shoreham ICF role at Citizens Options Unlimited.

Under the direction of the Director of Nursing, coordinates operations within the nursing department for a caseload of buildings at the Shoreham ICF. Responsible for ensuring the delivery of nursing services in compliance with OPWDD and DOH regulation. Practices and promotes the agency’s mission statement in every interaction.

Primary duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  1. Practices and promotes Citizens' mission statement in every interaction. Through family and community engagement, Citizens supports people to live the life they choose.
  2. Provides direct supervision to RN Supervisors, RNs, and LPN staff by maintaining ongoing supervisory interactions and conducting yearly evaluations.
  3. Ensures the implementation of proper principles of primary nursing, in accordance with OPWDD and DOH regulation, ensuring the effectiveness of each nursing department.
  4. Responsible for scheduling nursing staff to ensure compliance with staffing minimums. Is on call 24/7 to manage staffing issues and assist with triage of medical concerns.
  5. Works with Quality Assurance & Regulatory Affairs to identify and implement correction plans for systemic medical concerns. Functions as a member of agency Human Rights, Incident Review, and Medical Review Committees.
  6. Assists with the retention and hiring of nursing staff.
  7. Coordinates nursing staff meetings and attends administrative and management meetings to communicate medical information and seek recommendations to improve care.
  8. Ensures nursing department adherence to all ICF regulations and participates in ongoing surveys by OPWDD.
  9. Confers with individuals receiving services and their families/correspondents via telephone and scheduled meetings to discuss medical concerns.
  10. Maintains a 24/7 RN on-call system, including review of responses and protocol establishment.
  11. Ensures safety procedures are followed regarding workplace safety and infection control.
  12. This position requires regular physical contact with individuals receiving services and is subject to a background check.
  13. Reports to the Justice Center as a mandated reporter of abuse, neglect, or hazardous conditions, following all incident policies.
  14. Adheres to all regulations, policies, and training requirements.
  15. Performs other duties as instructed by supervisor.

Minimum qualifications:

  • NYS Registered Nurse License
  • 5 years of clinical nursing experience with the developmentally disabled
  • At least 2 years in a supervisory role
  • Qualified NYS Driver's license
